News: Trump’s 2019 Budget Proposal, Anti-LGBT?

Photo Credits: Gage Skidmore [CC BY-SA 3.0], via Wikimedia Commons

Trump’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2019 was released last February 12, and netizens and organizations alike are calling it awful, anti-rural, and anti-farmer among others in social media. Meanwhile, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) released a statement calling the FY 2019 budget proposal “irresponsible, dangerous, and anti-LGBT.”

While it is still a proposal for now and nothing is set in stone yet, it does give the people a glimpse as to where the Trump administration’s priorities lie and it definitely isn’t education, agriculture, or housing. For a more comprehensive discussion on the proposed budget, read The Washington Post’s detailed analysis or take a look at the infographic below for a quick guide.

Reports say the proposed budget will “harm people with disabilities, older individuals, communities of color, veterans, young children, women, LGBTQ individuals, and rural communities” to name a few. It will also affect the “nation’s health care system,” as well as access to “affordable housing and nutrition,” and programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Read more here and here. All of these, so the government could afford to “pay for additional defense spending, the border wall, and an infrastructure plan.”

Further, the budget plan includes cutting of “over a billion in funding for global HIV and domestic HIV/AIDS programs.” The aforementioned programs include the Ryan White  HIV/AIDS  Program  ($58  million cut),  CDC’s  HIV  prevention  programs  ($40 million cut) , and the AIDS Housing programs which will be cut by $26 million. One Campaign says there is also a $225 million cut on the Global Fund that would force PEPFAR (the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief) to “implement a strategy that could lead to 300,000 deaths and 1.75 million new infections each year.” Read about this particular issue in detail here and here.

Today, there are over 1.1 million Americans living with HIV and according to HIV.gov, “gay and bisexual men—particularly young African American gay and bisexual men—are the ones who are most affected.”

Below are some of the netizens’ reactions on Twitter which we gathered for you.

What do you think about Trump’s proposed budget for 2019, guys? Do you agree with his allocations? Why or why not? Share with us your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Where are the Democrats like JFK who said “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Oh, I guess they don’t exist anymore, if JFK were alive today he’d be a Republican! Not a Democrat Socialist Moocher.
Come on people- be responsible and take care of yourself.

Isn’t that the son of the boot-legger, Joseph P. Kennedy? Isn’t that the very same one who has been linked to death of a woman who drowned and he fled the scene? Isn’t that the very same one whom by the way had to be convinced by MLK to take action in implementing civil rights right after the church bombing that killed a number of little “colored” girls? Yeah, he’s was so motherfuckin’ righteous, wasn’t he. Mr. “what you can do for your country” what a fuckin’ joke all those young black men who died on the front-lines of the Vietnam war; for nothing we now know, some of us knew then though, see. Those young black men were dying at least 4 to every 1 of the white men, for nothing! You’re talkin’ antiquated nonsense. The mafia took his ass out, his father wronged them, that’s when Italians were Italians, now they too, are just white… No honor among thieves….

Congress will just put most of those budget items back in. They’ll be heroes with the press and voters. The President will be a hero with Senators and Representatives for making them so.

STAY OUT OF POLITICS. EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN OPINIONS AND QUITE FRANKLY, IF THE CONSTITUTION DOES NOT ADDRESS AN ISSUE IT FALLS TO THE STATE LEGISLATURES. THIS UNBELIEVABLE, POLITICS HAVE PERMEATED EVERY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES. SICK AND TIRED OF IT!

I Love Trump and what he has done for the country. I think beyond gay. That is only 1/10 of what I am. So glad he is doing a great job and helping people out. MAGA!!!!!!!!

… I’m a fag, and Trump needs to learn many things about politics. But unlike all the left-wing homos that get their fake news from Adam4Adam, I can think for myself and use ALL news outlets to form my opinion.

As a queer, single guy in beef country USA, I don’t need a rainbow to tell me how to vote. And I don’t need some community to tell me they deserve more handouts than some straight group of people. EVERYBODY has a soapbox these days… everybody NEEDS one. Otherwise, their heads will explode with anger about their own unheralded lives. Depend on yourself for a change my queer brothers and sisters. Don’t use your LGBTQRIABCDEF labels to get you ahead in life. Simply heal yourself.

Groups like ACT UP, Gay Men’s Health Crisis and more fought hard to save lives. These are. It just LGBTQ issues they are LIFE issues. If and when this battle comes are YOU ready to take it back to the streets and polls?

I support President Trump. I support a lot of the cuts. If PBS and NPR are so well received then learn to make it like the rest of stations and quit taking government dollars. Cut back the SNAP program… so many young parents choose to live off the government money because Democrats have made it easier for these mothers to get assistance and it’s not with just one child but two and three.

This is the year they’ll find the damning evidence. Next year he will either resign in disgrace or be thrown out of office or he’ll quite before any of that can happen. He’s a tweeting twat. (I use the second meaning of that word and not the usual derogatory one.) He has to, and will, go. The world does not take him seriously but for saying his is bigger than the the other lunatic’s. His ship was sunk before he took office. It’s a matter of time. Hopefully, his demise will swing the pendulum in the right direction, and things will mend on both sides of America.

Sorry not a brainwashed liberal I don’t believe it.. the cuts stop Democratic waste and overuse and mismanagement of funds. Obama’s budgets put us 21 trillion dollars in debt . that’s more than every other president combined including Trump .. the real men’s issues why should boys have to live up to female behavioral standards ever think of that? FemiNazis are drugging young boys because they don’t behave like girls. Hence the gender confusion issues. It’s causing mental illness. I will go on
Liberalism has always has the opposite of its stated intent.sorry not sorry it’s the truth Trump 2020!!.. screw the bullshit identity politics use your own mind..Think.. Americans need to wake up Trump is winning African American ownership business all time highs black women ownership of business same. women’s Business Opportunities up. Manufacturing look at the individual statistics all on the rise .There is no gender pay Gap sorry . If there is there are laws that will put corporate abusers in prison . it’s the truth. just because he doesn’t cater to everyone’s individual needs and feelings you look for any reason to knock him down.. fuck your feelings get back to work proud gay conservative.. victimhood is not a currency get over yourselves..

No, I too, am not brain washed, its just that my soul is still intact so that I recognize a few things you obviously cannot… Personally, I’m more toward the middle of between both parties, they’re both fuck-ups, however, the Dems are at least humane…. I’ve always though of the two parties like a my parents one will fuck you up, the other my compassionate, obviously, thing have shifted and “we” all know why, at least I do. Sexual abuse is causing illness, racism is causing illness, greed is causing illness. Women, have been for a long time before trump, have been winning, where have YOU been. Black people have quite often gone where the money is, its a rues. No money, no rights that YOU can afford, that’s what they didn’t tell “us” that was the joke about civil-rights. You have no damn idea, of what you are saying, total idiocy, completely!

  10. Lamar

Lol, I’m not at all surprised by some of the replies on here; pro-trump (no caps-purposely.)
I mean, I was surprised, when I read that there were, during the civil-war, slaves
who fought on the side of the confederates. I was also surprised, to learn of hitler, whom was taught how to give arousing-effective oratories, by a Jewish man no less, whom was later murdered, he was a “Jew” after all, during that movement.

In the corporate environment, I’ve also seen black people, whom hated themselves for being black, so much; that the very site, of another black person was just so absolutely abhorrent; body language was undeniable. When I think of the Indigenous tribes, whom fought-murdered each other for their own eventually “near complete genocide” for those whom felt they had the rights to what was becoming America.

If, you’re not: white-hetero, whatever part of that 1%, if, you are a woman, person of color, the poor in general… at some point, the hammer is coming for you’re head, too.

Simple, “YOU are not one of us,” YOU, are one of (((those))) people”= undesirables. Oh, sure, as long as the “market” holds out or up, whatever the case maybe, then, you can indeed, live in your present bubble of denial or reality of: “in the long-run, of what will eventually come to pass.”

Just the results of divided and conquered, who are they, you ask; the divided-conquered?
Answer: the fore mentioned you big dummy, you’ll see, “chess not checkers,” right down
the line, the most expendable of us. Not you? You mean, not yet…

Your really right over the barrel, and you don’t even know it, you’re in complete denial, you can’t see that far, yet, and when you do, it will be too late, like getting out the way of a fast approaching car that you didn’t see, you were looking at your cell or some other diversion.

I think that some people, on here, want to be something you’re just not, going to be, you can work towards it though, in vein…. Don’t forget, you’re still, fighting for your rights, it ain’t over!

It’s great to see so many guys here who make life decisions based upon who they are overall as a person, instead of just on their sexuality.

  12. Lamar

For myself, I know, I was Spirit first before I was human, your Spirit is “will” your intentions upon this, our earth and all of life. I’m not just African genetically, not ‘just’ gay. I’m a Spirit, having a very human experience, has nothing to do with religion as I have no affiliation. I’m a civic-minded humanitarian, a good citizen of humanity, period, see…. I’m better even, than a good American, in that respect…. It’s so infinitely larger…

  13. anonimatovato

I do think for myself, I don’t even have to watch the CNN to see how stupid Trump is, he is dead obvious not qualified to be president, needs to let go of twitter, but that’s the state of this country right now, we rather have a reality tv crappy business racist xenophobic as president in charge.

Some y’all just don’t feel affected because gay marriage (which Obama approved) was already approved before Trump got elected, so he doesn’t want to touch that, but he sure damn well wanted to ban trans in the military until check and balances corrected his sorry ass!

Every administration has always shifted the budget to reflect their priorities and have been hated by those who choose to look for a reason to hate. Just because the budget is cut in Column A or Column B doesn’t make the administration a Hater of either category, it simply prioritizes it less. I’m glad to see some of the readers here showing more objectivity than the author showed. The quickest way to lose me is when it is stated that “Everything” any one person or group of people does is bad. All people have good and bad qualities and ideas. I choose to think for myself, do a little research and make my own opinions on topics instead of adopting others opinions, especially when so many biases today are based on false information. Economists from both parties agree that twenty-five trillion could be the point of no return for our country’s debt. Cuts better be made (Even more drastically than they currently are) quickly if we plan to ever get out of debt as a nation. Pretty scary…
