News: Jeff Sessions Rescinds Transgender Workplace Protections

Attorney General Jeff Sessions released a memo addressed to “United States Attorneys” regarding the “Revised Treatment of Transgender Employment Discrimination Claims Under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”

In essence, the memo basically says that the aforementioned act excludes protection of transgender people from discrimination at work. To quote Sessions, “Title VII’s prohibition on sex discrimination encompasses discrimination between men and women but does not encompass discrimination based on gender identity per se, including transgender status.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ latest move is a complete 180 degree turn from the Obama administration’s issued guidance on the matter. In 2014, the then Attorney General Eric Holder signed a memo saying that discrimination against transgender people in the work place is “covered under the sex discrimination prohibition in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.”

Naturally, netizens took to Twitter to react on this issue.

Read Sessions’ entire memo here.

Last August, Trump had signed a directive on transgender military ban as well.

What do you think about Sessions’ latest memorandum, guys? Do you agree that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act don’t cover transgender people? Why or why not?

This is not surprising to learn of this news. You can plainly see just what’s happening here. This Nation has been taken over by a bunch of jerks, and assholes who don’t know the meaning of governance. The mission they want to carry out is to eliminate not only all of President Obama’s policies, but also take this country back to the era of blatant discrimination against all people who are not White Male. They have positioned themselves at every level of government so trying to shame them into seeing the light is pointless, since they have no shame. We can’t blame them entirely, we have to take some of the blame by not seeing what was happening decades ago. They did a great job at pitting us against each other and that theory works still today. Now the question is what are we gonna do about it? Now is the time to fight back against all discrimination in all forms till we root out the crap, and drain the governmental swamp before we have nothing left but memories of how things were.

“Do you agree that Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act don’t cover transgender people?”

That question cannot be answered until we each read and understand what the Act covers. How about, in all fairness, the Blog provides the link up in th Blog? Without it, the answers to the question will be slanted.

    We could start here:

Gee, what a fucking shock. The person who said that LGBT and all those other letters I can’t remember “couldn’t have any bigger ally”, put somebody in a position of power, who can only be definited as an enemy against those people and their rights. Well, frankly I’m shocked. Nobody could have ever possibly saw this coming. Who would have ever suspected that a great man like our now illustrious president would ever tell a half truth, or full lie? I’m sure this is the first, last, and only lie that our president will ever tell us. It’s quite obvious how highly he regards us, the American people, to ever try and lie to us again. I’m sure they won’t be coming after our rights next, right?

Since the act was written in 1964 I doubt that they were considering the Transgender group in our communities. However, discrimination is wrong even without a law.

Transgender individuals need to be respected as human beings just as much as they should respect others. In any workplace, you are going to have all types of humanity. One right should not overwhelm the others nor take away from a comfortable working condition.

THANKS A FUCKING BUNCH, 40% of the gay community who voted for the “Douchebag-in-Chief”…happy now? Sessions AND Pence are on record for removing ALL protections that my brothers (most of whom are now dead) and I fought so hard to get from Christopher St. on…and 40%of you morons VOTED for these shitbags. No more support for you, gay biz people and phony “social justice” types….you don’t DESERVE it.

well known as a lawyer, is also a high-level learner, living in the regime of civil liberties. The mind is as ignorant as a bảbarian , cavemen . Still backward, far behind all Bavarian , cavemen

I’m sure I’ll catch tons of flak for saying this, but frankly, we’ve been told by so many folks for so many years now that sex =/= gender, it seems to fit the narrative quite well.

Actually he did not rescind the law.

The Department of Justice can not do that.
The previous AG Eric Holder superseded Congressional authority and extended the equal rights act of 1964 to include transgender category. Something that he did not have the power to do.
Jeff Sessons is just advising the AAGs of the United States that the Justice Department will be following the law as written by Congress and signed into law by President Johnson.

There are other laws, which he cites in his statement that cover transgender issues that he has directed the Justice Department and all AAGs of the United States to abide by.

This matter of not reporting accurate information is just hate speech. Where did you provide the link to the actual memo! Oh, you did not. Well, shame on you!
You become part of the problem – not a part of the solution.

    Grow up!

Be practical. My experence as a business owner is. Transgenders people take off work a lot . Are into drama at work and aren’t very hard workers. They spend more time talking and thinking about their issues than works issues. They smoke a lot call out sick a lot and have more mental health days. They aren’t what I would call emotionally strong or healthy. They are easily upset and emotional roller coasters . They aren’t good for company moral or getting work done. They aren’t discriminated against there heads aren’t in to game of work .

It’s not time to panic.. yet. So far this administration is either unaware how govt works (unlikely) or it’s huff puff blow your house down bullshit. From a conservative view the left has made crazy strides..good for us scary for Trumps base. The way I see it republicans have already blown their chance and dug their grave for a long time coming. Democratic strategy is now to shift a little to the right and it should work. I agree with the Republican party in theory but since they decided to pander to the religious (read racist and ignorant) crowd… I can’t say that I identify myself with either party
The LGBT community isn’t looking to take over. They just want their “inalienable rights ” as a community we have overcome much more difficult battles. If/when the time comes we will don our boss n cha cha heels and throw down.

  14. Paul

Shouldn’t these bastards be working ? There are a lot of fish to fry other than the focus on taking about rights of LGBTQ people. The Same people that will Vote this Fall to change the whole picture. So I have a Hardy Fuck you to Jeff Sessions.
    Go chase some Russians.
