Watch This: The Entire LGBTQAlphabet

Everybody’s getting into the Pride mood this month, celebrating and commemorating in their own ways. For instance, popular gym bran Equinox just came out with a four-minute video “celebrating the LGBTQAlphabet” — 26 words associated with the LGBTQ community.

Made in collaboration with The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Community Center, the video features a diverse set of performers creatively interpreting the different words featured in Equinox’s LGBTQAlphabet.

There are some obvious choices in the words Equinox featured in the video. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and ally make an appearance. Drag is also included, as well as “coming out” and “vogue”.

However, some of the other word choices may provoke discussion, depending on the type of people you interact with. Queer is included, a term that younger generations have reclaimed for themselves but one that older generations still see as a slur. Masc and femme are also included, two words sure to start a discussion if you’ve ever been on a gay dating app.

There are also a number of terms that are still only gaining a foothold in the current LGBTQ vocabulary. Pansexual, a sexual orientation where attraction is not limited by biological sex, gender, or gender identity, is included. Womxn, a more inclusive term for women coined by the feminist and trans movement, is also featured. Ze, a pronoun meant to be gender neutral, also makes an appearance.

Watch the video below:

What did you guys think of the video? Do you think it’s a good representation of the LGBTQ community as it is now? What words or phrases do you think should have been included? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below and Happy Pride to everyone!

This has got to be one of the most incredibly visual and inspiring videos about the language of the GLBTQ community.. MY community! OUR community!!

I am humbled and awed at the performance of the dancers, and also inspired NOT to live a life that is defined by others. but, LIVE MY LIFE AS I SEE FIT, IN MY OWN WAY!

Thank you to all who made this video a reality. Blessed BE! 😀

What a load of bullshit. Blame it on the Lesbians, who refused to use the word “gay,” which was always meant to include Everyone. It is what makes people ridicule us more than anything. If you have to pigeonhole yourself, something is wrong with your thinking. You are not a label. You are not a category. You are not a product. You are a person. We have no power when we are splintered and fragmented as a community, and including people who do not belong in our community. Inventing “language” without knowing linguistics is just ignorant. You can’t force people to re-define themselves according to what you want. And everything has consequences.

Moreover, youngsters today are so young, they don’t even know where “queer” comes from, a tiny group of academics who wanted to get attention for themselves, by using a completely false notion, not even a concept, that by “reclaiming” a word, you can remove its negativity. Try saying “nigger” around black people and see how that works. Queer is still perjorative.
