Celebrities : Gaga Offers Gifts to Gay Teens in Need

Through the course of her career, Lady Gaga hasn’t made her support of the LGBTQ community a secret. Beyond the outrageous outfits that always draws a titter, Gaga has been active in so many other ways.

For instance, Gaga was recently shown on the Today Show paying a surprise visit to New York City’s Ali Forney Centre in Harlem, which is the largest shelter for homeless LGBTQ youth in the city. Gaga brought along gifts with her, which understandably brought on the waterworks from some of the teens.

“These children are not just homeless or in need, many of them are trauma survivors,” Gaga explains in a video broadcast on TODAY. “They’ve been rejected in some type of way. My own trauma in my life has helped me to understand the trauma of others.”

Of course, this hasn’t been the first time that Gaga has advocated for the LGBT community.

Gaga has worked together with Cyndi Lauper and MAC Cosmetics to launch a line of lipstick under their supplementary cosmetic line, Viva Glam. More than $202 million were raised from the sales of those Gaga-endorsed Viva Glam lipstick and lip gloss, and the money was used towards fighting HIV and AIDS.

When Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was still in effect, Gaga went to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards with four gay and lesbian former members of the United States Armed Forces who had been unable to serve openly because of the policy. At the time, Gaga also urged fans to contact their senators to overturn the policy.

Gaga was also at a vigil held in Los Angeles for victims of the attack at the gay nightclub Pulse in Orlando. She read aloud the names of the 49 people killed in the attack, and delivered a speech as well.

How do you feel about this latest charitable effort from Lady Gaga?

Gaga has always been an ally. I have more respect for her than any other celebrity in terms of her support. I don’t think many people give her enough credit for her talent and philanthropy.

we should all take advantage of her inspiring works and know that we dont have to make it to be a celebrity to do work out of love as she does…..wouldnt it be a great place if people decided to give to others and support instead of hatred start with 15 minutes a week and add each week the time you stop and give back……I am sure it would make Lady Gaga smile knowing that she has inspiried to have others follow in her lead and stop and Give Back in a loving way/
