HIV : Could HIV Treatment Stop All New Cases?

Today there are powerful incentives for everyone to know their HIV status!

If you’re HIV-negative, regular testing can confirm that the things you are doing to stay negative are working. Testing can also provide an opportunity to talk to a medical provider about PrEP if you’re finding it tough to use condoms regularly when fucking.

If you’re HIV-positive, incentives exist for starting treatment immediately. Experts agree that suppressing the virus to undetectable levels with anti-HIV medications can help someone live a nearly normal life span. And being virally suppressed means you are extremely unlikely to pass the virus on to sex partners. That’s a huge relief!

We know this because the PARTNER Study looked at 548 straight and 340 gay couples where one person was HIV-positive and virally suppressed and their partner was negative. After 60,000 anal or vaginal sex acts without condoms over 16 months, NONE of the HIV-negative men or women became infected. This was true even among gay men when the top came inside the bottom. It’s hard to guarantee 100% protection, but these are amazing results!

Supporting all HIV-positive people to be virally suppressed is the thing most likely to make new HIV cases extremely rare. And PrEP will definitely help to lift the painful burden of this epidemic. The combination of viral suppression and PrEP could also reduce some of the stigma and rejection HIV-positive guys experience, lessening the divide that exists between positive and negative guys. That would be a pretty good thing, too!

It won’t work…too many irresponsible jerkoffs in the gay community these days who won’t stay on their meds, plus that Truvada crap is just a money maker for Gilead. Gilead’s already admitted that PReP without a wrapper is only 51% effective. This is just another money making scam for them. GET THE VIRAL CURE. They did it for HCV, they can do it for HIV. Until then, you guys are on your own.

Wow… good news and bad news… me being a positive person all around hiv included, I feel honesty can solve it all. Some people just don’t care. Prep isn’t a sign from GOD. But I have a few questions I need some clarification on. When a guy has in his profile neg on prep, blank, anything goes, are they positive? Are they sluts? Do they use condoms? What about sti’s? I guess these questions should have come up earlier. But what is everyone looking a for creamy ass, or loose dick.

Your mileage may vary. What I’ve found on all the hookup sites like this is: “Negative on PReP” often = poz in treatment, blank = “I don’t know, don’t care”, “Negative” = MIGHT be poz in treatment, and it’s none of your business, even though I want to blow a load up your ass. Trust NO one. A good friend of mine a few miles away is now in ICU in isolation due to an unknown opportunistic infection with blood clots in his lungs and signs on PCP. He’s poz 20 years, and is hearing the end of the road; the average lifespan of any HIV patient on Gilead’s garbage is 23.4 years. Those who insist on going bareback after pozzing up take on different genotypes, which will in time expose them to declining T-cells and all that. As I say, if you don’t SEE the test happening, use all safe practices at your disposal, and if those aren’t appealing to you, jerk off to porn. Oh…my friend? He’s 42. I’ve mourned over 200 since 1980 before I quit counting, and here’s yet another one.

I always have those questions what they say in their profiles.I think ‘anything goes’ or just ‘blank’ about their Hiv status tells a lot about them.ughhh.

Hiv is a private health matter between the patient and the doctor…it is none of ur business in 2016…if u want can just say Neg if that relieves ur misplaced anxiety.

That’s Gilead’s way of saying, “Start taking Truvada, and plan on being dead in 23 years.” That’s the stat. Poz up at 18 (seems to be the latest thing now) and you’re dead before 40.

I wish we can address the Stigma, Social issues and trauma that HIV brought to our LGBT community. Its more than Drugs and cures. Its also Human right issue

Jason, the nearly normal lifespan is the physician’s way of saying nothing is absolute, a cynical avoidance of liability, a conscientious avoidance of deception. Just as American physicians avoided accepting the Swiss cure, because of concerns about Langerhans cells in the kidneys, and the theoretical latent reservoir of HIV, and potential variations in different humans, so do they avoid any absolute statement regarding health, as they must allow for the negligent or ignorant patient who does not extrapolate.
Ultimately, allowing for healthy diet, avoidance of chemical habits that impair or disrupt organ function, avoidance if risky behaviors, taking of adequate rest, and barring the accidents or incidents that befall persons sometimes, the lifespan should be close to the mean length of a person of similar genetic and environmental background, allowing for statistical variation.
The drug user who smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish, eats fried food, gets no exercise, parties all night, gets exposed to diseases, flashes cash in the town crime zone, and drives recklessly cannot expect to live to anything approaching 72 years, regardless of HIV treatment regimen.

for this to work, it would have to be universally available, which means free. and you’d need universal compliance, which is not realistic.

even if there were a vaccine, you couldn’t mandate inoculation.

So they want every one medicated…. with lower dose liver damaging substances so they can get fucked in the ass? Meth and other looks so much less intrusive… such noble work….
