News: States Call For Less Protections For LGBTQ

Trump may have gotten 20 percent of the LGBTQ vote, but his regime has not been beneficial at all for the community itself. Not only has the Masterpiece Cakeshop case been resolved unsatisfactorily, it appears that a number of states are now working actively to rescind protections for LGBTQ workers.

Politico reports that 16 states, including 13 attorneys general and three GOP governors, have filed an amicus curiae brief asking the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that included transgender workers in workplace anti-discrimination laws.

The ruling was passed by the 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals, and states that the protections of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 extends to sexual orientation and gender identity. The brief argues that this was not the intention of the Congress that passed it in 1964.

Politicians involved in this action include Nebraska Attorney Generals Doug Peterson and Maine governor Paul LePage. While not involved in the brief, US Attorney General Jeff Sessions had previously ruled that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 did not extend to gay people or protect trans people at work.

Whether the Supreme Court will take up this case will be seen in the coming months. Currently, laws in 20 states ban employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Despite this, workplace discrimination against LGBTQ people happens, as evidenced by our recent post. Reader Andy, for instance, shares that he “felt set up to fail” in his architecture career. JJ, on the other hand, says that he was let go for a simple mistake after coming out at work previously.

How do you guys feel about this possible challenge to current workplace protections for LGBTQ people? Share your thoughts and stories with us in the comments section below.

Not surprised since their is so much self hate inside of LGBTQ. What sad is how many within this group voted for tRUMP and crew.

  2. bjjj

Trump is just promoting more discrimination, in which we have worked so hard to fight for our rights. I’m sure he wants to stop gay marriage, gay hook up sites, (such as this one), put a ban on all kinds of porn, so everyone can live the “”perfect moral life”. The sooner he gets out of office the better. He has no compassion for any of the gays, minority races, nationalities, or anyone who doesn’t fit the rich white american peoples agenda. Sure, lets keep the gays, blacks, Hispanics, Asians, etc out of work and on welfare, so rich white america can support them, and keep them in their own separate ghetto groups. Oh yes, lets build a wall to keep the Mexicans out of the country at the tax payers expense, as he sits on his billions of wealth. Sure send the Mexican parents back to their own country and leave the kids behind. What makes me even more upset is that only around 2% of America sits on around 95% of all the wealth in this country, as us working folks struggle to meet our bills and needs. Discrimination still abounds in the US, just in a different fashion than the civil war days. Trump isn’t helping the matter that’s for sure. I don’t know why any gay person would have voted for him. Twenty percent of the LGBTQ vote? I wonder how accurate that figure is. Oh yea for your info, I’m not a minority. I’m Just an ordinary older gay white man trying to stay ahead of all the bills, taxes, etc as rich America tries to dictate our lives.

It just boggles my mind why gay people vote against their own interests? In fact why do most of us vote against our interests? I guess we sometimes vote with our emotions, and not about the facts, or details positions speak about on the campaign trail. All of us deserve to have a right to all the privileges others take full advantage of, so why do lawmakers continue to try to pass legislation that deny those rights to The LGBTU community? We thought we had some sense that our voices were finally heard. But behind the scenes here we go again with the gains we made, are taken back. Overturning those protections will not make America better, it will cause harm to those who only want what most Americans already have.

    • Johnnie10

and do you think the US would be better of with that lying crook Hilary as President? I think not her and her cheating husband have not done anything worthwhile for the states as evidenced by all the bad things secret service have said in books about working for presidents the Clintons treated them all they servants instead of people who were trying to protect them. and they certainly have made billions of dollars for themselves in the name of charity no less. so how you think that would have been better than trump I dont know where your head is.

  4. Michael

It’s very important that we all vote this November. Our rights as equal citizens is at risk due to the current administration. These so called religious liberty laws are nothing more than permission to discriminate against us because of who we love. We can only hope to stop them by voting BLUE.

    • Eric

It may have been but it confirms the attitudes of hate running rampant in this country that make me embarrassed to be a citizen.

    • mitch

I agree with you. The cake shop owner was well within his constitutional rights. Other may not agree but we don’t try cases in the United States by feelings we try them with facts and rule of law.

    • Okzebra2

And slavery was justifiable punishment for the sins of Noah’s sons, equal rights are rightfully denied genetic inferiors, I can charm a poisonous snake if I had true faith in Jasus, and genocide is God cleaning up the gene pool …for the Bible tells me so.

    • Richard Scott

Thank you. My sentiments exactly. As a business owner, I don’t want government telling me who I have to support. As it was said on “queer as folk,” – “There Are two types of bigots in this world, the bigot behind your back and the big it to your face.” (Paraphrased).

I want the bigot to my face, any day of the week. Like the Baker was to the couple. Market forces will force this issue better than any government resolution ever will

    • BSintolerant

A narrow decision that said cake shop owner cannot be forced against his religious belief, PROVIDED he is NOT demeaning or treating his ‘customers as less than human, or superceding their right to equal protection under the law. I don’t want people forced to go against their beliefs but believing that anyone SHOULD deny a service because they are a different sexual orientation is foolish … and now, of course we have the excuse to deny all sorts of services because WE DON’T AGREE POLITICALLY … More RED HENS here we come …

  5. Incensed

You bitches who voted for tRump are now getting your just desserts. Stupid queens…you are destroying everything that my generation fought for in the streets to get for you. Now you’re going to get a taste of what being gay was like in the 1940s, courtesy of tRump’s christian taliban cultists.

  6. Lamar

See, this is what happens when you vote or work against your own choir or tribe; selling-out to sheer evil for hate and or gain.

WWII, the one who taught hitler who to gesture- give a moving speech, he was Jewish, later murdered, I refuse to capitalize his name properly, so not a misspelling.

I was watching a documentary one evening, where they interviewed African American descendants of slaves whom actually fought on the side of the confederates. Here’s
the, other, kicker; the goddamn idiots were proud of their ancestors for having done so!!!

The Buffalo Soldiers, they were cool and all, however, they fought against the Indigenous
tribes for the white man, their oppressors as well, not cool, man. Same thing with the-
Vietnam war, young black men dying on the front lines in mucho-greater numbers than
whites, period, but they were drafted so that’s a little different. Everybody, I suppose cannot
    be Mohamed Ali.

Now these “Log Cabin” cock-suckers, you get the picture, the list goes on and on, people, essentially, voting against there own best interests in the long or maybe not so long run.

How, could such well-adjusted, educated, affluent, I’m assuming; white dudes… Could they
,not, see this coming? Blinded by the, “make America great again” = further oppression
of the “coloreds-negroes-apes,” just too damn appealing to pass-up? I know, capitalism that’s it, right? You might not cash in on that, just sayin’!

    • Bart

Can you really ask why the Log cabin Republicans exist? Why they vote against our community? The answer is very simple.. While many wealthy LGBT are conscience of the struggles of our community, some wealthy LGBT are not. Why are they not part of our community and why do they see themselves as not belonging” Firstly they likely have never suffered oppression or denial of rights important to them individiually. When you are wealthy you can afford to live where you want, Bankrupting or becoming homeless doesn’t depend on being fired because you came out at work. You can afford the lawyers that will insure that your spouse will inherit what you want them to inherit without family problems or a marriage license. . So why shouldn’t they at least vote to help the gay community? Because they are greedy and want the big republican tax breaks. If they are L,C, Republicans and not wealthy. they want to be different. Different to draw and receive attention for being different..

  7. chris anderson

I hope the 20% that voted for that gas bag in the oval office are happy with what they did. and the real ramifications will be felt over the next 40 years as the packed judiciary of conservative judges make their presence felt.

  8. Dwayne

You can’t have it both ways. Lgbtq/freak azoids run around in stupid queen idiot costumes half naked then want to be taken serious. Then you want your rights to be above others rights. How can you want equality when you sue a bakery for not making you a cake. What happened to his rights? Stop acting like ignorant fools and you might be taken more serious. You’re acting like stupid ignorant millinials and liberal socialist fools. America wants equality. But that means equality not special just for you or liberals or blacks etc etc. Stop demanding and start earning respect. None of my friends act stupid and demanding just because of being gay. We deserve nothing more than anyone else, but some fools think they deserve more. You don’t, grow the fuck up.

  9. Hunter0500

“Reader Andy, for instance, shares that he “felt set up to fail” in his architecture career. JJ, on the other hand, says that he was let go for a simple mistake after coming out at work previously.”

Why do your co-workers or you employer need to know your sexual orientation? Why challenge them to accept it when you had no issues prior to throwing it it in their faces and basically saying “you have to deal with it.

I know of several cases where guys didn’t come out. They didn’t make their orientation an issue. They became great co-workers and friends first. As close co-workers came to know/figured it out, no one cared.

Let people accept you for who you are … without making orientation an issue. Your chosing to come out is your choice; you draw the line so you can’t get your undies in a bundle when people don’t repsond wonderfully. Many people just don’t care and really don’t feel the need to know about this part of your personal life.

  10. luigi nonono

Well, that was inevitable, once the trannies forced their agenda onto our backs. Who wants to work in an office with a man in a skirt and with boobs? They pushed too far. Most of them are not even the least bit gay. Consequences.

  11. Eric

President Trump gave us all a nice tax cut, our stock market is at record highs, which is reflected in our growing 401K balances. President Trump supports law and order, including keeping those who illegally enter our country out.

The cake case has nothing to do with the President. Although I don’t see the logic in turning away a paying customer, a business should have the right to turn away business it doesn’t want. The same people who want to ruin the baker would put him on a pedestal if he refused to bake a MAGA cake.

President Trump and his policies are definitely beneficial to us. I proudly voted for him in 2016, and will do so again in 2020.

    • independent thinker

Serously? i don’t know one single person that got a ‘tax cut’. Maybe if you make over $500k a year. Guess you haven’t checked the stock exchange lately either. Most lower income people can’t even afford to buy beef. However I DO know hundreds of local people who have lost their jobs because of tRump’s tariffs. Farmers in the midwest now have to rely on OUR tax money to keep them in business and most of that will be too late for some.

  12. Quantum_sexual

Im not so mad at Trump, he is what he is and we all knew it. What disturbs me is that 20% of our lbgtq voted for him. I distinctly remember during the last election him telling the African American voters in several speeches why they should vote for him, nearly the same sppeches he gave for us..

We voted for him, he won fairly and we deserve everything he has and will destroy. Next time we blame him or ingers, well…it is a democracy disguised as a republic being controlled by a would be emperor with no clothes.

Remember that naked moment of visualizing our El Presidente al fresca the next time you choose your ginger nazi, goose steppin arrogant marshmallow fluffy white person.

  13. Hey

By definition having any special rules for any group is bias, and when somebody is fired or laid off the first thing they’re going to do is blame it on discrimination, could it be that there was a need for reduction-in-force or you are just not good at your job I know that’s hard to accept for some

    • Bart

It could be discrimination …..Or could it be that reduction in force causing layoffs is because the CEO of the company you work for demands 20 million more annually, because his present salary of 30 million is not enough for him to live his lifestyle. Here a few examples of CEO’s raises from 2016 to 2017. Gives an idea where corporate tax breaks are going.
      –Ceo Time Warner salary 2016 >>> 36’6 million—-salary 2017>>> 50.2 million +50.2%
      — CEO of TransDigm salary 2016 >>> 18.9 million—-salary 2017 >>> 61 million +223%
      — CEO of BroadCom salary 2016 >>> 24.7 million—-salary 2017 >>> -103.2 million +318%

Have any of you received 50%, 223%, or a 318% raise lately?
The raise the CEO of BroadCom received could pay the annual salaries of 1,510 employees earning 50,000 a year.
Which tax cut did you receive? The bottom 80% of income earner will receive a tax cut between .9% to 4.8%. The upper 19% of earners will receive a cut of about 7.2%. the highest 1% would a get a 12.9 tax cut.
So what your tax cut? Did you pay $700 less in taxes? $1000 less? If you earned 3 million your tax was $70,000 less. if you are earning a salary near the CEO of BroadCom your tax bill was 2,669,000 less than. Guess the GOP thinks if you throw a few crumbs….

  14. Randy

I’m voting this November, republican all the way! Trump is doing a great job! I have more money in my 401k, the economy is doing great! More jobs, less taxes and etc. Democrats and liberals doesn’t care about gay rights, they say they do, but in reality they don’t, they just want our vote!

    • Bill

Yeah I voted for Bush lost most of my 401k Obama got it all back and then some Now Trumps is in a mouth war with the rest of the world I am about to cash it all in

  15. latinlust69

A house divided against itself will fall.LGBTIQ people are in all walks of life and employment. We are a minority at risk. Maybe @POTUS should ask his wife if her, or his hair dresser, decorator, or secretary, or security guard should be protected.

  16. NslashA

This last election was a difficult one. I really had no love for either of the front running candidates. I will be honest, I voted for Hilldog, but I had to hold my nose the entire time I did it, and did not like the prospects of the coming four years no matter who won. But anybody who thought that Trump was going to be a better advocate for the LGBT community needs to have their head examined. Hilldog probably would have shyed away from any real contraversial decision when it came to LGBT issues, but she wouldn’t have been actively trying to set us back decades. Get out and vote this Midterm. Vote justice democrats if you care at all about the little guy. If you care at all about the middle class. If you care at all that we are the ONLY first world nation that does not mandate your employer provide you with paid sick and vacation days. That new mother do not get guarenteed maternity leave, that the number one cause of bankruptcy in our country is because of medical bills where that is unheard of in literally EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED NATION ON EARTH!!! Show corporate politicans that we are sick of them selling us to the highests bidder and lying to our faces about promises that have no intention of keeping. That you want an open and free internet where your service provider can not slow down traffic to sites that don’t pay their extortion fees. Show them you love this country and that we are going to take it back and kick their sorry asses out of office and into a real job!

  17. Okzebra2

The comment about the 2% controlling 95% of the wealth is the issue; the structural denial of civil, not religious, rights to anyone, including us, is a means to the end of limiting public involvement after they wake up from the distracting heroin of social media, websites, and clubbing — and that’s not very likely. So, the wealthy use this for more social control insurance. A denial of rights based on religious rights is their wizard put out so no one looks behind the curtain to see who controls the gold but, of those who wake up and dare to peak, there are mire than a few self-perceived A-list gay’s willing to collaborate in exchange for discretionary privileges for themselves while their lower-income peers have no such privilege let alone rights. Tell me something new about human nature or the dismal human conditions of snobbery, ignorance, parvenu, hypocrisy, or manipulating a “cause” to hide self-interest that is worth knowing. De trop. Nauseating. Predictable..

  18. Daddy

Johnny Hoffman is right. Even the lesbian tshirt maker came to their defense. Because what if nazis wanted swastika tshirts? Under that logic the lesbians could be sued for refusing to provide services against their beliefs. It’s a 2 edged sword.

  19. Dwayne

So only a fool would want to be a slave. Blue is for socialism /communism. Is that really what you want. They kill gays. You will have no rights. I say “you” because I’m not a fool and will not vote against my country because I think I’m better than everyone else and deserve more. Don’t forget everyone of every color and nationality is be discriminated against since the Obama administration and the Democrats started destroying America. Not Trump. Pull your head out of your partners ass and smell the world not the Shit Obama started.

  20. Libertarian Queer

Lots of you guys don’t want equal rights, you want MORE rights than anybody else. Any employer should be able to hire and fire whomever they want. If an amployer doesn’t like you, they ought to be able decline hiring you or fire you. That’s the way it works in the str8 world so why should the gay world be any different? Incidentally, the Civil Rights Act of ’64 didn’t have anything to do with sexual orientation, let alone gender identity which was an unheard of term at the time.

    • R

Correct, but it should because of “cause” not anything else in firing or hiring. Guess, an employer could fire “anyone they want”. if your FAT or over weight, bald or anything else. Once upon a time the airlines had a weight guideline and if your were higher then certain amount you would get fired. In Las Vegas back in the day the Hot had weight in’s for their show boys and girls and if over exceeded it you were fired. In casino you would get fired just for not knowing the right people, which is not true today.

  21. Lamar

Well, there it is, “tone def”- “autocrats”. . . this is to you folks,

Do you know “who you are,” I mean, prior to becoming Americans? You, came fleeing religious persecution, you came here hungry, poor, to prosper, to be free and happy, resulting in a better future for your offspring; before and after Ellis Island.

You, set out to GIVE YOURSELVES that which you were not aloud, in your native European countries. . .

You, made YOURSELVES, the majority HERE on these lands that did not belong to you, in the most systematic hideous fashion/s

Do you remember what was promised on paper, in black/white in the laws written to those that were Slaves in this country, the “Emancipation Proclamation?” The “Forty Acres and a Mule” NOT!!!, ring a bell, ding-a-ling-a-ling, lol, wow, man, you guys really are just plain flat out sociopaths; with memory problems to boot, lol!

“Civil Rights”, where and how, who has them, we “coloreds” don’t, why? You rescinded and denied us them! My ancestors got no mule or the forty acres as promised, just ‘we’ have no civil rights, in reality, which is staring you right in your face every day, as proof of that fact.

It’s what the Indigenous said about the white people of those days, “speaks with fork tongue”
which is why the they called you “Indian givers”= he who takes back that which he has given you. That has to do with the treaties and “rights” that were given then rescinded.

Yet and however, in your pathological heads, that which was promised those former slaves, and descendants, of those slaves by those “white people” of their day; FAILED, and YOU of this day, are STILL failing, miserably.

As for the Mexicans, they were/are Americans, genetically, again, those “white men of their day,” simply re-drew the border-lines, in reality (which is my residence, psychologically-historically.)

We want no more than YOU HAVE and most importantly, NO LESS EITHER, you know this already, though, I know you do.

The real. . . is that you’re beginning to be out-numbered, period! I know, what “conservatism” really means as to what, you’re trying to conserve, “your way of life” clearly, too many do not. It’s the very same thing, as “tradition” which is utterly fraught with inhumanities, ect. Having said, all, of that; your time, is coming to an end.

The lines are being drawn, better choose wisely, baby. There’s way more oppressed-period, than those that are not, there are way more people of color than those that are not. In the future, ALL of these people are act on their “common cause.”

“Think tanks,” “working behind the scenes” those planning, they know it, and scared shitless! The “divide and conquer tactic,” is coming to an end. It’s about EVERYBODY having the ever coveted FREEDOM. We, will be long gone, but the future inhabitants will enjoy this.

  22. Okzebra2

The real issue is the concentration of wealth which the libertarian and log cabin queens would have you believe will destroy freedom if we adopted taxing 90% of wealth and income over one million, maybe even ten!, guaranteeing everyone a minimum income and job, pensions and social security equal to 75% of your highest income year when you retire, grants to cover all education costs (including a stipend to live on), and assessing duties equal to our wages on any good coming from third world slave labor states that corporations use to make money, and paid legal holiday for election day every year. I can hear the piggies and their minions squealing in high pitch tone already.

    • Lamar

They’ll change their tune, once they start getting fired from their jobs-careers, losing their homes and God forbid, I really would not want to see this, even though we clearly are not allies; they can not afford their hiv-meds. Just let the present admin., keep shutting down the America we knew to avoid the darkness of the reason Europeans fled their country to begin with.

  23. Matt

    “fewer” not “less”

All “protections” are a symptom is self-imposed victim mentality. People have been inculcated to believe they are victims and by passing laws or flinging lawsuits that raise a big stink they will be protected. STOP seeing yourself as a victim of something. Put on your big-boy panties and take charge of your life without forcing your ideology on other because doing so make YOU an intolerant bigot.

People really need to stop being so fragile.

  24. Ivy Garner

My God there are gays in this thread defending a man who hates you, HATES YOU! You are all getting exactly what you deserve. Soon all legal protects for gay men and women will be gone. I wanna hear how all you queens react when that happens. Good lord, what idiots.

  25. Matthew

The problem with your article’s narrative is that these laws were trying to make improper pronouns a punishable offense… So I absolutely support keeping that kind of bullshit out of…everywhere.
But by all means, keep demonizing conservatives.
Also, the cake shop guy is an idiot, but he didn’t violate any law; and anybody who has read the constitution (it is a simple document to read) knew that. We don’t live in a fascist society, and private, non-commodity businesses are allowed to discriminate. You cannot have your cake and eat it too, so to speak.
