Whenever I hear South Korea the first things that come to mind are: the breathtaking Jeju Island, their scrumptious food, Korean dramas (and, ahem, their gorgeous actors), and their historic temples, palaces, and museums. These days though, thanks to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games in South Korea, a certain tourist attraction is gaining considerable prominence both online and offline.

Reports say that tourists and Winter Olympians alike are flocking in droves to visit Haesindang Park, more commonly known as the Penis Park. And, yes, you’ve read the name of the park right.

Haesindang Park was named as such because it is a penis-themed park. It has giant penises, some carved out of wood and it is nestled on a hill with a beautiful beach backdrop. Take a look at the video of the place below.

Haesindang Park stole the attention of the visitors thanks to its almost 300 penises that is of various shapes and sizes. There are penis-shaped cannons, penis totem poles, and penis wind chimes. Tired from roaming around the park? They’ve got penis benches, too!

Supposedly there’s a bizarre legend that inspired the creation of the Haesindang Park and that’s the tragic love story of a young virgin bride who died during a stormy night before her wedding could take place. She allegedly drowned while her fisherman fiancé was working in a nearby cove. After her untimely demise, the villagers have been unable to catch a fish, up until a fisherman urinated into the sea that is. This particular occurrence led the villagers to believe they could only appease the dejected spirit through the “sight of a male genitalia” hence the construction of the Penis Park.

Well, that’s according to the legend. The official story says Penis Park was constructed along seven others to “inspire fertility in the country” as South Korea has low fertility rate with only 1.17 births per woman as of 2016.

Want to check the place yourself? Haesindang Park is located in a small town called Sinnam and is merely an hour away from Pyeongchang where the 2018 Olympic Winter Games are well underway.

I’ve always found it sexist how tits are a great and wonderful thing to be displayed right and left, but any mention of a penis is an affront to all that is good and right.
