Sam Smith fans out there, his second studio album The Thrill of it All is finally here! It comes 3.5 years after In the Lonely Hour, his debut album, and it is said to be a byproduct of his heartaches owing to a breakup.

The singles from his album such as “Too Good at Goodbyes,” “Burning,” and “Pray” charted in several countries like United Kingdom, United States, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Australia, and Brazil. It has 10 tracks but the special edition has 4 bonus tracks while there are 2 more songs for Target and Japanese bonus tracks.

Fans in YouTube said it gave them the “feels” while Variety called the album “easily one of the best pop albums of the year.” The Guardian on the other hand, thought there’s a “certain power to The Thrill of It All, but it could have been a much more potent album if they’d laid off the polish just a little.” I personally agree with The Guardian; nevertheless, I did find personal favorites in The Thrill of It All from his singles such as Too Good at Goodbyes and Burning.

With Burning, one literally feels the singer’s heart burning from regret and longing: I’ve been burning/Yes, I’ve been burning/Such a burden/This flame on my chest/No insurance to pay for the damage/Yeah, I’ve been burning up since you left.

I also love Palace which has the same wistful notes as Burning although it  is more accepting (of the heartbreak): I’m gonna miss you/I still care/Sometimes I wish we never built this palace/But real love is never a waste of time/Mmm

!!! I got goose-bumps, listening to this song, so very heart-felt-soulful, I love the hint of “Gospel flavoring” too. This man has real depth. I’m not really a pop-listener or fan (jazz, actually) but lately, this man has been catching my ear…

If you are over 25 you have probably had your heart broken! If you haven’t it’s yet to come…unless providing you have no heart! I don’t really want to hear another slit your wrist, depths of depression song! I know it’s where he’s at but after Stay With Me… And is it just me or is he yodeling? Whatever it is it makes it hard to hear what he’s saying! Enunciate boo.
