Watch This: Heineken Ad on Opening up Minds and Worlds

Hi, guys! Have you seen Heineken’s latest commercial? It is currently everywhere on social media earning praise because the ad is actually a social experiment about people with opposing views. Because it involved delicate issues, the experiment could have gone horribly, horribly wrong but it ended up warming people’s hearts instead.
In this ad campaign titled “Worlds Apart: An Experiment #OpenYourWorld,” three pairs of people with different political and sociological beliefs were gathered, placed on separate rooms, and were tasked to assemble a bar as well as stools. The first pair was a man and a woman with opposing beliefs on feminism, the second on climate change (both men), the third on transgender people (again, a man and a woman).
Once done with their tasks at hand, each of the pairs was given a time to get to know each other by asking them questions about how it feels to be like them, their differences, and things they have in common. After which they were instructed to place two bottles of Heineken on the bar then asked to watch a “short film” only to discover they were watching themselves expressing their respective views. Later they were given a choice: to either leave the room or discuss their differences.
I think this is exactly the part where the ad campaign touched the hearts of its viewers. You could see the awkwardness settling in, and the dawning realization they were standing in a room with someone totally different from them. Instead of leaving however, they sat down and talked. Nobody said they changed their minds or their views but I think this ad is not about that. The message is about hearing where the other person is coming from sans the violence; it is about understanding and accepting that while we may be different from each other, we can still coexist. Respect we have differences but that our political and sociological views, sexuality, and gender is but a small part of us because in the grand scheme of things we are someone else’s sons and daughters who serve our country, people, and family in our own special way.
In the end, isn’t that what we all have in common?
Anyway, you’ve got to watch the ad guys and let us hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
Happy viewing!
It it were true it is amazing. I feel it was staged using actors. So. We need more actirs in the world, and beer
Most definitely staged with actors and a script. Knowing that, defeats the point, because none of these people actually learn anything. They are just reciting lines.
I don’t think so… but it’s your opinion:)
Heineken gives me headache after even one beer. Sometimes the headache dan last longer than a week. At the first tuime I didn’t even think about the beer gave me headache. Because i drink beer all the time. But then i realized once i have one I’ll get the headache. So far it’s the only brand I can’t drink.
ok, but the video was not about how the beer tastes in your mouth or how it gives you a headache…
Nothing groundbreaking. Everyone you work with has differences in opinion on everything. And what does ones political beliefs have to do with assembling a bar or anything at all?
We all will be better off if we strive to get to know each other and find opinions about social issues DO NOT matter because we have learned about each other’s CHARACTER.
Thank you beer company.
So do they save the topic of #racism for the Heineken lite ad campaign ?
