Gay Rights: Russian Spokesperson on Chechen LGBTQ Persecution

Yahoo News sat down with Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova and talked about Russia’s stance on certain controversial issues from the recent U.S. airstrike against Syria to Edward Snowden. She called the strikes “ridiculous” and “unacceptable,” that the act “violated international law and made no military or political sense” and that “they brought the situation nowhere.”

Ms. Zakharova is outspoken; she always has a thing or two to say on almost every topic or question that Yahoo Global News Anchor Katie Couric brought up. Ms. Zakharova even questioned Ms. Couric first, asking about the latter’s word choice ‘regime’ and if Ms. Couric use it to describe the American administration. She even went as far as telling Ms. Couric in an amiable manner, “I don’t know. I asked you what was your motivation” when Ms. Couric asked her back, “What would you prefer we use?”

Clearly Ms. Zakharova is never shy about expressing her thoughts and opinions, and strongly at that. But we say almost every topic because Ms. Zakharova stumbled when Ms. Couric asked her regarding the reports on brutal crackdown against Chechen gay men who are allegedly being rounded up and tortured by the authorities. Ms. Couric, however, is a woman who does not back down either and pressed Ms. Zakharova for answers. Take a look at the aforementioned moment of the interview in video shown below.

Curious about the rest of the interview? Watch Katie Couric’s talk with Maria Zakharova in its entirety below.

Maria Zakharova is Foreign Ministry Spokesperson of the Russian Federation. She serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov’s right-hand.

Ms. Zakharova bitch bye! We get it, gay topics makes you uncomfortable! You don’t care about gay citizens from your country! It’s not something you need more information about! It’s a simple question to answer!

What a bitch. She knows full well what’s going on. Russia is run by a bunch of closeted men who want to kill away those who have accepted their reality. I’m sure that folks like Franklin Graham, PST Robertson, etc. and those GOP assholes would like to replicate in this country what’s happening in Chechnya. #Resist!
Happy to see that Katie was unrelenting.

I think it was typical complete avoidance of the issue. We can not tolerate the genicide of our brothers and sisters. International pressure must be applied. This blog helps. Equality was (and still is) an uphill battle for 40 years. Think about it–a tiny minority against the majority-and we have succeeded. It’s hard to imagine now, but yes, back then being out of the closet was for you to be judged mental ill, immoral, a child molester, a criminal, outcasted, bashed or even killed. Yes, in the good ol’ United States. Well, this is where a lot of countries are today, including Russia. We need to help our fellow lgbt global citizens. Make your voice heard.

My respect for Katie Couric has gone up considerably. What a great interviewer. Did not allow lame sidestepping as it is not “her issue”. Should be broadcast around to those who have fallen for the Lemon in the Kremlin.
And next time honey, dye the roots.
