Health : How Can We Help On World Aids Day?

social550b

Today is WORLD AIDS DAY, It has been 34 years since the first reported cases of HIV/AIDS in 1981. The intention of the day is to raise awareness, increase donations for HIV/AIDS related causes and to simply remind people that HIV/AIDS has not gone away.

How can you concretely help? It’s simple. At midnight (technically Tuesday morning) until 11:59 Tuesday night, when you become a VIP member on A4A, 100% of the SALES will be donated to the Elizabeth Taylor Aids Foundation. We selected this foundation because its operating costs are paid by Ms. Taylor’s Trust; therefore, 100% of every dollar donated goes directly to helping people affected by HIV/AIDS.

So click here and simply select your plan: VIP at $10 or $25 or VIP+ProAD at $30 or 75$ and the full amount will be donated. Not only you’ll help people living with HIV/AIDS but you’ll get a VIP membership at A4A, giving you access to nice features, more photos in your profile, ads free mobile, priority support and more!

I’ll let you know tomorrow how much you guys donated! Surprise me! I’d love if we could send few thousands, that would be amazing!!!

Thanks guys!

Dave

I remember 1980 & 81. Said it was gay cancer. Doctors said antibiotics would cure it no worries. Young gay men didn’t see all of that. On the TV constantly. We were to blame cause we’re so evil. Excuse me but bullshit. It came from a virus in africa. They called it the green monkey virus cause the damn things would bite people. They are genetically close to us. Someone from the US went to Africa caught the disease, came home. Called him patient zero. Narrowed it down to one person who lived in San Francisco, California. Researched all of this cause I wanted to know.

It’s sad that it took Liz Taylor to make it more OK for people to care, or become less hateful perhaps, in the early hell years of the outbreak. Reagan was horrible; let’s remember the nightmare he would not do anything about, this day…the first victims. There was really no help for them. I wish I could give them all a second chance

We should take a look back in History to aknowledge the many lives lost to HIV AIDS. It took a lot of Frustration, and Anger to get the powers that be to listen to us, and to do something about it. When they didn’t respond fast enough, we began to ACT UP! To make them hear us, because people were dying. Many years have past, and through the funding of Research, and Support we have made strides, that saved lives. But we must not fall back into actions that got us here in the first place. Having Bareback Sex is still the leading cause of infection, even with Today’s treatments. PREP is not a cure, at least not yet, so let’s keep our heads covered. Doing so will honor those who we’ve lost, and give hope to those who are infected. In loving memory of my loved ones who lost their struggle, I Love You!

the saddest part are the guys on line here that are bug chasers who are trying to get HIV, imagine what those men dying all those years ago would think about that

    Mike,

Ever heard of gallows humor? Most of those guys are poz already. They are just yanking your chain, because they are poz and are not terrified of it anymore. Not endorsing it, just sort of understand what they r doing.

Amen Brian! Someone’s making money, but it’s not the English teachers. It’s AIDS (or A.I.D.S., to be specific) not Aids. Aids, in this sense, is not a word! It’s an acronym that stands for Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome. How can we make any progress if we don’t even know what it’s called!

As a person living with HIV, I think we can do our part in not only on Worlds Aids Day but for everyday is to stop the stigma, get educated and get tested. Im still getting asked: “so, are you clean”? My response is: “Yes, I shower every day and brush my teeth, if your asking if im poz, I answer yes. But just cuz im poz dont make me dirty”.

@Brilliant Idea: Uh, no, there are “bug chasers” and “gifters” running all over these sites. I’ve had five…count ’em…FIVE “gifters” trying to sell me on pozzing up because, and these are quotes, “It’ll end this bi mess your [SIC] in,” and “Why live in fear? There’s a vaccine now.” (which is a lie.) And, I’ve NEVER heard any of these gay blogs admit what the NIV, the CDC, Kaiser-Permanente, the APA or any of the HIV researchers already know, that being that HIV infection, MEDS OR NOT, causes cognitive dysfunction in the host. Thus, they come up with stupid shit like that. Sorry, “gifters,” keep your cooties to yourself, and “bug chasers?” Go back home to Mommy…you’re not “cooked” yet.

Encourage anyone and everyone you know to see the movie, ” Fire in the Blood.” The. crisis regarding availability of treatment at reasonable prices is not over, just delayed.

Best thing we can do on this day is to say it is NOT ok to be egnorant asswipes who think it is ok to get HIV today just because there are meds to prolong your life and be undetectable. We should stop normalizing the Dx of HIV. If you chose to ignore all the info on the subject and you BB with whatever crawls around and claimes to be on PreP or if your are yourself on prep. Come on before asking who we should help maybe we should realize we lgbt as a community need to help ourselves. Stop popularizing HIV and PreP, and say it’s not OK not to use confoms. How about donating it all to NYC condom or other programs like that.

Don’t see a reason for an HIV stigma…and don’t see any reason not to use condoms, either.

I know someone with warts in their rectum and lower bowel….not curable…they bleed…they grow…they have to be cut out from time to time…anal sex isn’t enjoyable for either party. A condom would have prevented that.
