Gay Stuff: Which Celebrity Made You Realize You Were Gay?
As gay guys, we can count on one hand the kind of guys that first made us realize that we’re attracted to the same sex. If it’s not the childhood friend, it’s probably the gorgeous jock we went to school with. Or even more predictably, it was a hot male celebrity.
Out gay pop star Troye Sivan isn’t any different, and reacted in probably the same way most of us did once we first realized we were also into guys. In an interview with Attitude, Sivan revealed that it was Zac Efron that made him realize he was attracted to guys. He also shared that his reaction to this realization was a little intense.
“I remember I cried when I realized I thought Zac Efron was really hot. I cried. And I felt really sick,” he said. “And that was that same thing, it wasn’t: ‘This is just a little crush on a boy or something like that: I’m no just interested in this boy — I think he’s hot.’ And that was weird for me.”
There have been quite a number of heartthrobs that a have captured the hearts and eyes of gay men over the decades. Whether it’s Marlon Brando in “A Streetcar Named Desire”, James Dean in “Rebel Without A Cause”, or Tom Cruise in “Top Gun”, a male celebrity has probably sparked a sexual awakening in some gay boy’s heart somewhere in the world.
We want to hear which male celebrities gave you a sexual awakening, Adam4Adam blog readers. Was it Burt Reynolds posing nude for Cosmopolitan? Was it Christopher Atkins in “Blue Lagoon”? Or are you just like Troye Sivan and found yourself crying at the sight of Zac Efron? Share which celebrities gave you your sexual awakening, and maybe even your fantasies about them as well, in the comments section below!
In my day the only reference we has were Paul Lynn, Liberace, Little Richard or Charles Nelson Riley etc… same style Queens that roost at the club, abs etc know all the tea about everyone and are usually the biggest cock blockers
You mean bisexual raw sexuality of Brando did not turn you on?
Sorry to hear that.
For me it was seeing Jim Palmer doing all those Jockey underwear promos in the late 70’s. I’ve always been attracted to a tall hairy man … especially in his underwear. And still do to this day!
Jim Palmer!! Me too! I had forgotten how i loved those ads. People thought i was reading Sports Illustrated. Haha
yeah, i remember those ads too….he was hot….and that Rolling Stones cover with the zipper and the crotch bulge
TAB HUNTER !!!
One Beautiful Man….
Does a Sears catalogue underwear model in the 70’s count as a celebrity? Coming of age I was looking at the men and masturbating which is when I really knew.
When i was in college, I did a short stint as a model with the Boncher modeling agency out of Chicago and i did two sears catalog underwear shoots….this was in 1981 and 1982. I remember doing them vividly as this was my first time posing so scantly clad and in front of several people in the room watching. It was kinda exciting but also a bit embarrassing. After a few pics were shot they had me insert a rubber wedge in my crotch to “smooth” everything out evenly. LOL
I knew I was gay before I knew what a celebrity was.
Greg Louganis ~~~ Dive right in!
I liked him too. I was on jr high and really liked his hot muscular body.
Watched him in the Olympics with my now ex-wife and knew our marriage was in trouble because I wanted him so much more than her 😉
Sean Connery, for me I wanted to be one of the “Bond girls” wish he had a couple bois too
Gregory Harrison stepping out of the shower during the opening of Trapper John MD. Somehow my parents never noticed that while I was always in the room for the opening, I never watched the show.
I forgot about him! Boy did I have a thing for Gregory, and was still digging him in Falcon Crest. Damn, he was fine!
I had a crush on Michael Gross from Family Ties, Val Kilmer from Batman Forever, JTT from Home Improvement…that was a big one!
The first celeb who comes to mind is Robert Conrad. Even though I was just a little boy when his TV show Wild Wild West was on, I couldn’t stop looking at his hot little round butt and his package in those tight pants . I really envied that horse he rode around on. And I didn’t even like westerns…
BLOWPOP50: I still watch those reruns just to see that beautiful ass on him in those tight pants.
I knew I was gay when I was four. That was about the time of the Monkees, beach movies, and beach bands. Muscled blonds always intrigued me. But hands down (my pants) was Robert Conrad and the almost obligatory shirtless while bound scene in practically every episode. The man is gorgeous, the hair, the blue eyes (even black and white you knew the color) and the body, he was part of a new generation of fitness guys who knew how to sculpt a body. I have to blame Wild, Wild West for my bondage and mild torture fantasies. I always wanted to be tied up like him and endure the punishment. I was jerking and having “dry” orgasms by the time I was eight. Looking back I cringe at getting off to Batman and Robin, Johnny Quest and Race Bannon fantasies, Don West in Lost in Space, even the Professor from Gilligan’s Island, omg. My sister snuck me into an M-rated film (pg-13) instead of the G film we were supposed to be at. The only thing I remember about the film is Beau Bridges strutting his bare behind all over the screen. That provided at least a month’s worth of revisitation whacking off. Where is today’s Luke and Beau Duke, or Bay Watch? Showing half-dressed guys is viewership gold!
It was the mid-60s and I don’t know his name, but he was an underwear model in the Montgomery Ward and Spiegel catalogs. I was maybe twelve. Years later I read he had been the Arrow Collar Man’s lover.
Oh, and Robert Horton on Wagon Train: they always figured out a plot twist to get his shirt off.
I was born in 1985 and I always felt tingling down there whenever I watched movies with Jean-Claude Van Damme. I would get so aroused seeing him in his small, skimpy, sexy underwear. I would get so hot and bothered and I couldn’t help but to appreciate his beautiful body and ass.
Christopher Reeve as Superman and Tom Cruise in his underwear in Risky Business.
Me, too! As a pre-teen, I used to look at Reeve in the magazines in awe and wonder why I he had that affect on me. By the time Cruise came along when I was 12, I KNEW what was going on.
I definitely fanticized about both of them. I was 12 when Risky Business came out too.
I was 10. In catholic school, when McDonalds came out with dragonball Z figures. I got two of them. One was a busty and petite figure of Bulma, the obvious female tease, and the other was a muscle covered Goku, the main heroic male. I remember sitting in my room holding these two (insanely sexualized) figures and consciously decideing to throw Bulma away. I proceeded to watch DBZ religiously to catch a cartoon Goku without a shirt. Moved onto real men quickly, but that Goku there I believe flipped my switch.
For me it was not one but 4…The Village People in “Cant Stop The Music” with Bruce Jenner.. now I am showing my age…
The shower scene did it for me…..
Clint Walker
Robert Conrad on Wild Wild West. What ba hot Hairy chested Man.
Charlton Heston in 1959 “ Ben Hur” – galley scene – bare hairy chest and bare feet very hot !
I woke up to my sexuality knowing I as attracted to my friends’ dads, their uncles, older brothers, etc. Guys who were in front of me. Guys I could interact with. Guys I got to be with repeatedly and could check out the subtle characteristics of what made them men.
Troye sounds like a real drama queen. How many guys actually cried when they realized they were gay?
Who is Troye ?
Who is Troye?
Troye Sivan, the guy from the BLOG that said he cried when he saw Zac Efron …
It was Christopher Reeves in Superman. I was so 4 years old, and so utterly jealous of Lois Lane. lol
When I came out to my mother, the first thing she said was “so do you think Colin Farrell is hot?” Little did she know that he was one of the reasons that I knew that I liked guys!
Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles in the Jockey Underwear ads was the first time I knew something was different . To this day, a sexy guy with a hairy chest is what turns me on the most.
Robert Wagner — It Takes Thief !!!
I didn’t cry but when I came out to my sister, she started crying. I was like WTH!?!
Brad Pitt in Thelma & Louise. Double hitter for me. The fact I thought Brad Pitt was hot and the fact that it was my favorite movie confirmed me being gay. Lol
I have to echo a couple of other guys in here with “Wild Wild West” star Robert Conrad’s: so handsome, such tight pants, what a beautiful ass. I watched the barely watchable show a few weeks ago — stupid plot, terrible fight scenes — but still got that same ole hard on watching Conrad’s ass. marcUPguy in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
Clint Walker and I was only 5 years old but for some reason I knew I wanted some of that
….showing my age….Gardner McKay in ‘Adventures in Paradise’…so handsome and studly!!!
I was 13 y/o at the time. Had noticed a neighbor’s Son outdoors who was in his mid-20’s, who had his shirt off with a nicely contoured hairy chest along with a hairy mid-trail. While lying in bed that night, I was fantasizing about feeling and caressing his sexy body while having my hand over my erect penis. The more I continued to fantasize about us being together, the more I continued playing with myself while experiencing this wonderful lustful feeling inside of me, soon followed by the sudden multiple release shots of seminal fluid. It was at this point when I’d realized that I was gay and attracted to men.
How about Race Bannon from Jonny Quest, shirtless a lot, and how he interacted with Dr Quest, Jonny, and Hadji
Robert Conrad wild wild west omg what a body and Michael Landon always wished he was riding me and say those damn horses
John Travolta in Urban Cowboy!!!
Rock Hudson in McMillan & Wife. My first hardon was laying on my stomach watching that show when I was 7 years old.
Hard to choose, Joey from Punky Brewster, Kirk Cameron in Growing Pains, Scott Bale from Happy Days, and the Brewer Twins.
Scott Baio, the nail in Happy Days’ coffin. He was more “jump the shark” than Fonzie jumping the shark.
I guess you could say it was Hugh Hefner, because when I saw a naked man in Playboy, in a photo-essay on “witchcraft”, I knew he was far more interesting than any of the women. And then, Hugh, himself, came out as somewhat bisexual on the Tonight Show. He winced as he said it, but he admitted to experimenting with a guy. His secretary was Al Parker, so I can guess who he experimented with, and getting fucked by Al Parker might have hurt a bit.
For me it was Michael Landon who played Little Joe on Bonanza and Tony Dow who played Wally on Leave It To Beaver.
Tony Dow is a living god. Look up “all-american boy” and Tony Dow’s image should be mandatory. Ah, schucks Beave.
Dad had muscle mags. It was Sergio Oliva that got me hard. Could not stop jacking off to his pictures. ABC had a Mr. Olympia contest with him. I was alone in the house and just jacked off to him posing and flexing. Ever since then I cannot get enough of jacking off to bodybuilders like Lee Haney, Ronnie Coleman, Flex Wheeler and Phil Heath. I also have Kai Green’s jackoff DVD that always gets me shooting a load!
Wow, it was so Sean Connery in the bond movies. The face, the lips, the hairy chest. I remember being at a barber shop at about 10 years old after school. There was a movie magazine, this is the 60s guys, and he was the cover guy. I knew there had to be more pix inside so I tucked the magazine in my homework when no one was looking. Within 3 days every page he was on inside was stuck together.
Montgomery Clift
Eric Estrada from chips ❤️❤️ I’ve had a thing for Latin men since!!
Eric Estrada
Brad Pitt’s ass in Thelma and Louise….. grrrr. Still can jack to that ass.
Adrian Grenier in that teen flick with Melissa Joan Hart when they were all at the swimming hole or river all the guys with no shirts and just shorts…noticed Adrian was hairy and wanted to follow where the hair disappeared now thag I have seen his bate videos I think I made a good pic want him even more
Marky Mark Walberg
Robert Downey Jr. and Prince on that motorcycle.
I enjoyed reading this one, and remembering some of the hot male celebrities of the past I use to be crazy about, like Gregory Harrison and Robert Conrad.
But the first one guy who help me find my individuality was Steve Austin. Not the wrestler, though he is hot. But the Six Million Dollar Man, Lee Majors! he was the best thing about Sundays!
I always knew I liked boys but the original red power ranger Austin St. John. My best friend back then found a picture of him in the uniform without a cup. I stared at the bulge for so long. That opened the door to a lot of sexual exploration.
The original red ranger ASJ was totally hot!!!!
Craig on May 25th, 2018
Richard Chamberlin, a very Young “Dr. Kildare” on TV! What a gorgeous hunk at that time!
Talk about dating myself!! LOL
Yes, Richard Chamberlin! I had a picture from a glamour magazine that I kept hidden in a drawer in my room. It showed him climbing out of a swimming pool. What I find most interesting is that’s when I discovered my foot fetish – Richard has beautiful feet:)
David Cassidy in the Partridge family. Those tight pants that curved in ALL the tight places!!
Yes He was the one!
Hell Yah!
in the 1970s I had McMillen and wife. yes and rock Hudson really got my hormones going. little did I know right . he was so hot and would have loved to know he was gay at the time
Growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, I was always looking at men on TV with nice butts and crotches. When I was in High school my best friend Gary became my infatuation…Gary was not what I would cal handsome, bu the was “striking” and he also had a BIG cock, almost 10 inches when aroused….we became ‘good friends”…LOL
did you and Gary become lovers?
It was Gregory Harrison, Patrick Duffy, and John Kennedy Jr.
I already knew I was gay. But Vin Diesel gets my dick twitching. I could lick that body from head to toe playing a lot of attention to his feet. It would be a dream just to suck him off once.
Thanks for reawakening my feelings about Christopher Atkins in Blue Lagoon. That may explain my fantasy of spending time with a man on a deserted island.
When I was younger, and Harry Potter had just come out, I found myself fantasizing about both Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. Zac Efron didn’t help, and neither did Hayden Christensen (despite his ugly crying face in Attack of the Clones)
I just love all of these fifty-somethings on here! Long before I knew what a celebrity was, I was noticing all sorts of males around me, period. Including the Sears and Montgomery Wards catalogs, guys on tv and in the movies. I knew before I reached double-digits of age, I was fascinated about their facial-body hair, muscles, their big veined hairy hands and feet; the bulge in their tighty-whities.
The Sears catalog was a hit, but i noticed they all had small bulges. Believe it or not,I was smitten by the Bonanza boys–Hoss and Pa -woof
I also was fascinated by Lumpy Rutherford on (Leave it to Beaver) His chest hair poking out of his high school shirt got me hard for sure.
Robert Conrad made me hard too WWW Wild Wild West
you have officially run out of ideas for meaningful topics
I was about 12 years old when i seen the Jim Palmer underwear ad and them darn J C Penneys catologs of men in tight bikini underwear. The women in bras and underwear did nothing for me.
Paul Tulfir(miss spelled) from days of our life and a few movies and shows that smile the body and Scottish accent the body wow
Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz. Tom Selleck on “Magnum P.I.” Parker Stevenson on “The Hardy Boys”.
Omg! Get out of my head! Lmao.. I would have to add Starskey and/or Hutch (a 3way☺️) … Grant Show, Jake from Melrose Place, made me hide my pitched tent from the (now) exwife. For real.
I didn’t know I was gay for years until in therapy @ 30 despite my love for Mark Spitz in that 1972 swimsuit poster with all the gold medals. Hot. Sweaty. Vibrating.
I have admired Lee Majors from Big Valley for years. He is still hot
For me, the first real inkling came when i watched FLIPPER ( I was 10 at the time!) and saw Ranger Rick’s older son, Sandy. I was attracted to him like crazy and wasn’t quite sure why but, it sank in quickly!
He had those short cutoffs that were hot
the stars of the 1950’s….Cary Grant, Randolph Scott, Tyrone Power, Rock Hudson…..whether partially clothed or in a tuxedo just naturally oozed sexuality…..always wishing you were the woman they were romancing…..finding out later in life that they all had gay or bi-sexual leanings!
Alejandro Rey from the flying nun, still like Latin men.
Robert Conrad & Bobby Sherman!
Bobby Sherman!! I knew I was when I Looked forward to checking out and drooling over that hot package of his every week on Here Come The Brides.
The Dukes of Hazzard guys. Then later, Rob Lowe. Shot many a load during About Last Night.
In the mid 90s, my mom had a Redbook magazine and they had about 10 men in their underwear. The hairy muscular ones were so hot! Wish I had a copy of it.
I got my first hardon watching Elvis Presley in “Kissin’ Cousins” in the pile of hay when I was about 6. Damn he was fine! I knew then I liked guys.
In the 1960s I watched the cartoon “Jonny Quest”. I liked Roger “Race” Bannon and Dr. Benton Quest. They both were tough guys in their own right. Even now I wish a movie would come out feaTuring the adventures of the Quest family. Race had a long distance affair with Jade and their kissing scenes got quite graphic.
By today’s standards they are the perfect gay family ( 2 men raising 2 boys).
Jonny and Hadji had a dream life of exploring the world on their flying jet packs and their hovercrafts.
Well, it wasn’t the culmination exactly; Wil Wheaton when he played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek definitely was a cementing factor that I was gay!
For me it was Richard Gere in Gigolo. I wanted to be a client to him…i wanted to be him….i wanted to DO HIM!
Ricky Nelson in the late 60’s and early 70’s. He could practically trip over his eyelashes.
Well for me it was Kent McCord as Jim Reid in ‘Adam 12’. I still watch the reruns and (in my opinion) he was a f**k stud. I Also liked his characters personality as the naive jock guy, the type of guy you want to have sex with but not marry. LOL…
Somewhat embarrassed to admit to lusting after Davy Jones on after-school reruns of “The Monkees.” And Burt Ward as Batman’s sidekick Robin, OMG.
Mine was Peter Tork from the Monkeys. He was just so cute!
I’d have to choose Robert Conrad from WILD WILD WEST. I’m 60 something but my realization came the other day when a co-worker was watching reruns of that show on METV in the lounge. When I saw those blue( sometimes green) eyes and those tight bubble butt buns in the suit with the Bolero jacket which accented that ass. I know that kept me watching.
For me it Christopher Atkins in “Blue Lagoon”, also Mark Hamill in “Star Wars”.
Space Ghost, Race Bannon from Jonny Quest, James Drury from The Virginian all made me know I was gay.
Race Bannon from Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, James Drury from The Virginian.
Mine was Leonardo DiCaprio…now it’s Luke Evans…at least I’m crushing on openly gay celebrities now lol.
“My Three Sons”did it for me. Will never forget the one (and only?) time that Robby–the mid-aged son?–removed his shirt. Whew.
This message is way more about reading the comments then the actually question itself!
I LOVE the fact that so many respondents seem older, and that they were growing up in a time when TV and Media were much more innocent, WELL, as innocent as trying to push the boundaries of sexuality could be in those days! I dig reading that they got off on underwear packaging and good looking guys on old TV shows … ALL of which worked to make us how we are today! We wouldn’t have shirtless hairy gay guys as leads on shows, or overt sexuality and commentary, or Marky Mark (grabbin’ his junk) a hundred feet high in just Calvin Klien underwear in Times Square (my day) and NOW: Andrew Christian underwear that leaves NOTHING to the imagination 😉 We’ve come a longggg way, and I enjoyed reading everyone’s ‘sharing of the decades commentary’ on this.
When I was growing up, it was seeing guys like Richard Chamberlain (Dr Kildare), Tab Hunter, Montgomery Cliff, and other actors and male dancers on tv. Especially hot if they took their shirts off or had some hair sticking out of their shirts. Nowadays I find guys like Jake Gyllenhaal, Armie Hammer, Ryan Gosling, Zac Efron, Max Schoenaerts, Max Thieriot, and others really hot. When is someone going to make the video “Hollywood Hotties Jerking Off”?
Christopher George in playgirl and Arnold in a now defunct mag. Called “After Dark”. After Dark
Sean Connery, Burt Reynolds, Tom , JC Penney catalog, underwear section…lol….do you notice they are all handsome with a nice furry chest! Now that I’m older, let’s put Zac Efron with an unshaved chest and stomach at the top of the list!
wow so many to choose from. Heath and Nick in Big Valley, Heath’s tight jeans and tan boots, Nick in all black and leather vest, a fetishist’s delight. Also Fonzie on Happy days, I got hard ons at 7 but had no idea what they meant. Still into men in tight jeans and leather. Patrick Duffy on Dallas, super tight jeans, great boots; tom Selleck on Magnum, those hot tight tight faded jeans.
For me it was Patrick Duffy in “Man from Atlantis”; Gregory Harrison in “Trapper John, MD”; David Cassidy in “The Partridge Family”; Lee Majors in “The Six Million Dollar Man”; William Katt in “Greatest American Hero”; Parker Stevenson in “The Hardy Boys”… And Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz!
Early 70s, Tom Seleck.
I was a late bloomer, no one in particular at the time, but when I was figuring things out I came across a book called Finding Out by legendary Aussie Rugby League player Ian Roberts, after reading it and writing to him it made understand things a little better and helped me to come out. I got to meet him socially a couple of times and have had a bit of a crush on him since
For me it was definitely Chris Atkins in the Blue Lagoon and Playgirl.Yummy ass!
I was definitely going Robert Conrad’s hot butt. But i was also into David and Shaun Cassidy! One episode of the Partridge Family you could actually see the outline of David’s cock!
Hugh Jackman…he was my sexual awakening. I will never forget seeing that rough and tumble, burly, shirtless man in that cage fight scene in the first X-Men in 2000 (love at first sight and all that). It’s been 18 years and I’m still terribly in love.
Rod Taylor and Dennis Cole in Bearcats!
Robert Conrad in Wild Wild West!
Jeff Palmer’s underwear ads…
for me, it was Lee Major in The Big Valley and Chad Evertt in TV Show Medical Center Both are still hot today and I get a hard on
I was 10 years old exploring the French Quarter in NOLA and cane across a life size poster of Burt Reynolds on a bear skin rug and got a huge pre adolescent boner LOL
I’m older. It was Gene Barry. Damn, I wanted his sweet ass.
