News: The First Total Penis and Scrotum Transplant

The world has just seen its very first total penis and scrotum transplant. According to Dr. W.P. Andrew Lee—the principal investigator of the Human Penile Allotransplantation protocol—the recipient is a U.S. serviceman who “sustained a severe I.E.D. blast injury to his pelvis, lower abdominal wall, and lower extremities in Afghanistan.”

The groundbreaking procedure was performed last March 26, 2018 by a team of nine plastic surgeons and two urological surgeons from Johns Hopkins. The surgery lasted 14 hours and is the culmination of over five years of research, rehearsals, anatomic studies, preparations, and collaborations of a team of plastic surgeons, urologists, transplant specialists, psychologists, and bioethicists within Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Lee said they believe that this genitourinary transplant can “help those warriors” suffering from what they call the “unspoken injury of war.” He added that these war injuries are “hidden” and its impacts are “not widely appreciated by others.” Apart from the loss of sexual and urinary functions, Dr. Lee went on to explain that genitourinary injuries have devastating impact on the patients’ “identity, self-esteem, and intimate relationships.”

Dr. Redett— Johns Hopkins’ clinical director of the genitourinary transplant program—said that their patient is “recovering from the transplant well.” Dr. Redett added they hope that with this “life enhancing transplant” their patient will “regain urinary and sexual function and lead a more normal life.” He said that their goal in the long run is to “offer the procedure in the future to other suitable patients with loss or damage of their genitourinary systems.”

In an interview with Sky News, the doctors admitted that there remained several ethical and health concerns. For one, in this surgery the patient received a transplanted penis, scrotum, and portion of the abdominal wall but not the donor’s testes, “as it would have given the man the potential to have children.” Dr. Damon Cooney said, “We just felt there were too many unanswered ethical questions.”

Should they have transplanted the donor’s testes as well? What do you think, guys? Share with us your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Awesome for the war victims. A matter of time b4 this becomes main stream if it really works. Might be the best solution to penis enlargement.

Does this mean that rich guys with tiny cocks can get transplants? Can you choose the size you want? What if you get some big black cock?

They probably made the correct decision. Since I’m guessing the patient had lost his balls, were he to have had the testicles transplanted too the children would not biologically be his…, to many questions and issues.

Well I’ll be damned !! Remarkable!
Good for the soldier boy. I hope it works out well for him.
As a former Funeral Director, I have seen many a nice example of what would have made a great donor.
No disrespect at all meant to the deceased here at all.
The article did not mention the organ donor. I wonder what that story is…??
    When I was 15, my 27 y/o brother died. He was hung like a horse… I
clearly remember. ( I’m sure erect, which I never saw, he must have had a 9”er ). Hell, I may be 6 at best. He would have made a great donor…. and laughed like hell at the honor.
Oh well, good news for the wounded warriors.

This is amazing work by some incredible doctors. It will help this poor fellow regain his self-esteem and hopefully recover from the physical and traumatic injuries sustained in service to our country.

I can’t imagine anyone would want to transplant testes. Nobody has the right to spread someone else’s seed, especially since the donor is dead. Assuming everything will work normally, the soldier won’t be able to have “his” children anyway.

Why not focus on the miracle of organ transplantation, perfected by American medical experts and showcasing the remarkable progress we’ve made to combat organ rejection and allow a transplant recipient to live a longer, better life. I hope he gets some good use out of his ‘new’ body part!

They can create a micro penis from the women’s labia. But you raise a good point, will FTM transgenders be able to get one of these transplants?

Woman have a clit which is a stunted penis due to females not producing enough testosterone. Its testosterone that make some females many looking and lack of testosterone that makes some men more feminine appearing but has no effect of sexual orientation

Hmmm. At first I thought: great! Someone injured in war might be given a second chance at simple bodily function, happiness, and mental stability.
Wasn’t even thinking, until you added those last paragraphs about the testies … that it is one thing to have children and another thing to be a donor and then as a donor have children posthumously. So many ethical questions raised here. I guess in a more perfect world, with the advances in stem-cell research I would like to see the use of the patient’s own genetic material, and then growth of the patient’s own genetically identical materials (in this case penis, testies, abdomin, etc., …) used in the reconstructive surgery. giving the patient the chance at a real, personal, second chance. Until THAT is a reality, I find giving men the opportunity at reconstructive process a good idea

I think that is amazing! I’ve seen and heard of a lot of injured soldiers that were hurt in ways that would make it so they couldn’t have sex. And that really makes it hard on the person and their partner. So being able to have a procedure like this is completely amazing. As far as transplanting the testes, I don’t know. On one hand, yes it would allow him to have kids. But they wouldn’t be his genetic offspring. I would have left that decision up to the patient. If all he cared about have the ability to have kids and not that they wouldn’t be his genetic offspring, then do the transplant. But if that’s something he does care about, then it’s better to have not done the transplant. I personally want kids and like that I can have my own kids or adopt. But with this procedure he isn’t given the opportunity to have his own kids. Either way would be basically adopting, genetically speaking. But it would be better to at least have the option, than to never be able to have kids. At least he won’t have to worry about accidental pregnancies or anything like that lol. So at least there’s that.

I understand the ethical questions about transplanting the testes, and the possibilities of fathering children with essentially another man’s sperm. But, wouldn’t transplanting the testes also give the donor the benefit of producing testosterone on his own, at least partially? If he has no testicles, then he also must get regular testosterone injections, to maintain his masculinity, secondary sexual characteristics, etc. They could perform a non-reversible vasectomy, to prevent fathering children using sperm from his transplanted testicles, couldn’t they? And, I’m assuming they fitted the scrotum with prosthetic testicles…..otherwise he would have an empty sac, which would be really depressing. Sounds like a wonderful surgery by incredibly talented surgeons though. Great!

I think it would be most important if he could maintain an erection and have an orgasm. Someone out there: is it possible to ejaculate without balls? I mean, there is a seminal vesicle up there. He’d just be shooting blanks. Can the balls be transplanted and the tubes tied?

ps: if there’s a white guy wanting an asian penis, i’ll put a donor dot on my license. i’ve blown some pretty earth shaking screaming loads out of mine and would love for someone else have that experience – if you don’t mind having eurasian children……..

    😀

they have had Artificial testes for years so im sure he has a ball sack full hope it works out for the good for this soldier but alot of things need to heal right and blood flow is crucial

  11. Mike

The transplant of “snipped” testes would allow for a natural source of testosterone and other hormones(?) as well as better cosmetic appearance.

When you hear about men losing their “junk”, either to war, accident or disease, doesn’t it make you appreciate your average penis that much more? It does for me!

The number of comments mentioning ‘big black dick’ or ‘big black cock’ is disturbing. This was an advancement for a patient’s mental, physical and social health. There are hung men in every race on the planet so please stop making this about big black dicks and how white guys can now have them. It’s insulting to everyone and just underscores the outright race-negative thinking and stereotyping that still plagues our broader gay culture. We can do better folks. Check yourself before you think of another cute comment about transplanting BBC.

    • BearOKC69

Why is it disturbing? Yes of course there are hung men of every race but it has been my experience the stereotype of the hung black man is true. EVERY black cock I have ever seen (soft or hard) has being hung. Well above avg. length or girth or both. I can not say the same about any other race. Other races run the full spectrum. Have no idea why it is so, but it is. Again in my experience. I suspect a lot is genetics and while there is no mistaking my parentage in most every physical way (except one) and my maternal grandfather was hung as well, I don’t know where my below avg white cock came (or is it cum).

      • Kenneth

No, not EVERY black cock is huge! I have been with a LOT of black guys through the years and I’d call about half of them “hung”. The other half were smaller than me (I have an 8 incher). I’ve seen several who have 6″ or less when hard.
I think the big-dicked guys are just more likely to show it off.
Also, I’ve been with numerous white and latino guys that I’d consider “hung”, so I believe all races run the full spectrum, including blacks.

This is amazing news! This soldier will endure an agonizing healing process, and will have the ability to urinate vs having a catheter in his body. It’s the simplest things in life that we take for granted.
Wishing the soldier a speedy recovery, and most importantly
    THANK -YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!
Good Bless you, the donor and your families.

This is a great time for us men to think about GIVING THE GIFT OF LIFE, you can become an Organ Donor at DMV.ORG.

KUDOS TO THE SURGEONS whom have given our soldier an amazing gift!!

Obviously since the recipients trauma required part of the abdominal wall to be replaced, it means that the donor is in-fact decease. But I’m wondering if men who have sex-change operations will be able to donate their genitalia to others who have lesser injuries.
