A study in the UK says that bromance is on the rise among young men and these straight males’ idea of bonding? Well, it’s having threesome with a woman.
Granted, the sample of the study was only 30 male students but at least 10 of them were found to have done threesome (MMF, FFM) with six of them admitting they did it more than once. In addition, the study found that five respondents had at least experienced MMF once. However, the study also revealed that “there was little interaction” between the men during their sexual encounter.
The author of the study, Dr. Ryan Scoats, a sociologist at Birmingham City University, posited that it is the “rise of the ‘bromance’ and decline in homophobia in western societies” that has helped “make MMF threesomes more acceptable.”
It would seem that bromance is indeed on the rise (Bromance, by the way, is defined as a “platonic or nonsexual friendship between two men, usually two heterosexual men, likened to a romantic relationship). This theory is supported by a separate study at the University of Winchester which says that straight young men “get more emotional satisfaction out of bromances than they do out of their romantic relationships with women.”
Another study published in Sex Roles: A Journal of Research said that men in bromance are not reluctant to share hugs and kisses. The author of the study, Adam White, suggested that bromance of this kind is “probably more than best friend status and more like a brotherly love.”
