Starting last Friday, March 24, 2017, Apple fans can now buy an iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in red and in 128GB and 256GB models. The special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone is priced at $749 (although it is reportedly said prices may vary) and customers in the US, Canada, Australia and 40 other countries can get it through apple.com, Apple Stores, and authorized retailers.

The project is in partnership with (RED), an organization established over 11 years ago by Bono and Bobby Shriver “to engage millions of people in the greatest challenge of our time – the fight to end AIDS in Africa.” (RED) partners with private sectors such as Apple, The Coca-Cola Company, Starbucks, Penguin Classics (UK & International) to name a few through its (PRODUCT)RED brand and together they raise funds for HIV/AIDS.

According to Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, their partnership with (RED) had generated over $130 million fund through their (PRODUCT)RED offerings including their original iPod nano and Beats products and accessories for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. To date, (RED) has managed to raise over $465 million for its Global Fund ever since their inception.

Note that every sale this latest (PRODUCT)RED iPhone edition makes, a portion goes to the Global Fund directly—and not to (RED)—to fight HIV/AIDS.

He looked uncomfortable the entire time he was on camera. Always squirming around in the evil thing. Until he dumped it on the floor, that is. That’s the best part of the whole clip.

Lets face it. As much as it’s sad, it’s true. Nobody is going to buy this for the benefit of charity. They will be buying it because it’s red and pretty, most not even realizing what Product (Red) even means. At least something good comes from it in the end, but not from it’s intended purpose.
