Hot or Not: Guys With Nail Polish

“Male polish” or “man-icures” as they call it these days, is it hot or not?

We see more and more men—gay and straight—wear nail polish in our time it’s actually become a norm. There’s Adam Lambert for instance who I think is really rocking his black nail polish, and yes, I think he’s hot with it (even without it). Other men known to have been seen with painted nails include Johnny Depp, David Beckham, Seal, Prince Harry, Taye Diggs, Jared Leto, Brad Pitt, Zac Efron, Elden Henson, Darren Criss, Harry Styles, Jaden Smith, and Misha Collins to name a few. There are more out there for sure.

But it’s not just the celebrities. I’ve got men in my life—most of them straight, like my barber and some of his friends—who wear black nail polish, not every day no, but on occasion. I also had an ex-boyfriend who used to visit a nail salon regularly to “pamper himself” as he put it. He preferred the transparent nail polish though and he considered manicure and pedicure as part of good grooming.

I must admit I’m not hot for nail polish. I’ve tried it a few times but I dislike it because I somehow unconsciously peel it off, then I’m left with a ruined manicure which doesn’t look good at all. I prefer using a nail file and just keeping it clean. I hate men with dirty nails, it’s enough for me not to meet/hookup with them, if their nails are dirty, I just can’t imagine their cock.

So, nail polish on men, is it a big deal? Do you find men who wear it hot or not? Would you date a guy who likes to wear nail polish? Or do you think it is too “gay”? Do you find it a bit unsettling, seeing a man with painted nails? Or maybe you love painting your nails yourself?

Not attractive. Maybe this will change someday, but so far every guy that I have met who painted his nails has turned out to be flakey, irresponsible, daffy, or possessed a number of other less than attractive character traits. If a guy wants to paint his nails, that’s his choice. I’ll continue to hope for a change, but to date the evidence is what it is.

I like a guy with nice looking nails on his hand and feet. I myself get a pedicure on my feet and finish it off with clear polish. I hate guys with dirty jacked up nails…that is not sexy at all!

  3. ME623

Clear polish, I can handle because I love men with nice hands. I don’t want to see a man with colored nails. SOOOO NOT HOT

  4. Paul

Too fem looking for my taste, I like a man looking masculine. I never see this where I live, but to each his own. It just happens to be a turn off for me.

When I lived in Paducah, KY (mid-90’s) the business men would shake your hand, do a quick flick of the wrist to look at your nails then return to regular handshake. When I asked one of the locals “why?”, he replied that it was a sign that you took care of yourself. If you didn’t take care of your hands, you probably wouldn’t take care of his business. From that point forward, I scheduled a monthly manicure/pedicure. No nail polish (not my style nor liking) but it was my “take care of me” routine.

Hell no, then again, I am not into tats either. Or crazy piercings. All these are indicators of non stable crazy people.

I think you’re believing stereotypes. I’ve met people with tats and they seem cool. Let’s not all put them in the same band wagon.

And you’re defending someone being offensive to something I do myself and how dare anyone feel to deem someone unstable or crazy or flakey due to some literal liquid plastic on their nails . No wonder I hate Most gay men . Too bitchy and judgemental yet claim to be open and outside the box thinking —NOT ! Bunch of contradicting yet insecure as hell pricks

    • Jer

And to you… you judgmental clearly a big (thinks he’s Uber masculine )Douche

Men have been doing this for years, using mostly dark brown or black on there nails. I think its slowly entering into the mainstream as a fashion statement. Like all fashion, certain attire has it’s time and place. I have met extremely intelligent respected men who wore nail polish. I guess times are changing, which is great for those who want to express themselves with a little dazzle on their nails.

    • Divo

I would agree with you. Painted nails or not, if he really likes the person you are he will still be down for you. That’s extremely shallow and superficial to dislike or not date someone due to nail polish. In the gay community I have found that we find every reason to divide and discriminate against each other.

  8. einathens

be who you are, sure, but it’s not for me and I don’t find it attractive on other men.

not in favor of the man-bun, skinny jeans or lumberjack beards as well.

  9. anonimatovato

I normally don’t go out of my way to only like men with um nail polish? But if he’s hot and sports a bit of that rocker/metro vibe, I think black nail polish would suit his personality well.

Heck he might convinced me getting black nails you never know lol

  10. Kydleo

@kydleo I’m dope as fuck I wear black polish n haven’t stoped shit so y’all need to cut it I wip this big ass dick out all u muthafuckas will have ya mouth open n draws down

  11. James

I don’t like nail polish on men or women. I like people to look natural. Yes, I like to see a guys (or gals) nails clean, cut and taken care of, so why paint them. I’ve seen some women with nails so long and painted they look like Freddy Kruger from the Nightmare on Elm St. movie.

  12. Toby

Not for me. I was camping last summer and about 8 of us guys were passing the time chatting naked on the floating dock in the middle of the lake. There was one hairy, attractive, nicely built guy that was getting my interest, until I looked down and saw his black toenails. It cut down his masculinity and I lost interest. I also don’t care much for piercings aside from ears. Guess I’m a Loretta Fuddy duddy. 🙂

  13. Cumlick

I don’t give a shit one way or another. I just don’t fuck with whiney bitches who base their love life on fingernails or dimwits who think talking in ghetto-speak is intelligent. Are there an normal gay guys out there?

  14. DavidB

“Hot or Not” ?? It’s all a matter of degree, and I have always said “It’s not what you wear but how you wear it.”
I always look at a man’s hands, and fingernails that are dirty or chewed down to the nub are a real indication of hygeine. Clean, well trimmed nails, buffed or with a subtle polish, look fine and speak volumes. And I know some sexy Radical Fairies that ROCK in brightly colored nails!

  15. Luigi Nonono

Straight men have used clear polish for years. A French polish is the natural way to go. Colored polish? Forget about it. What a stupid way to get attention. The last thing gay men need to do is copy from women. There’s plenty of historical fashion we can draw on for glamor: the Cavaliers, Louis the XIVth, etc. Feminism has sadly disempowered gay men. We are MEN and have male power and need to find it in ourselves. And that encompasses everything we are.

  16. Alexander

I wear nail polish and its black and I’m a full top and I wear polish, the bottom boys in full effect of us fuckkng he compliment me on my nails and I do my nails every two weeks

  17. DaddyDean

Wow, obviously most of the men responding are not part of the faery community, where we try not to see the things that make us “other”. Like painted nails, or a purple mohawk, or 20 extra pounds around the middle, over 55. Makes me really sad to see so many negative, bitter comments.

  18. Jim

Assuming it is not for a Mardi Gras or Halloween costume or to masquerade some other problem with his nails, colored nail polish on a man’s nails detracts from the natural beauty and masculinity of a man’s hands. If one wishes to present oneself to the world in less than his most attractive front, that is his prerogative, but it doesn’t make him hot as viewed by others.

    • Jer

      And to you sir
I have to say the same thing you’re a big fucking douche and how dare you say such a thing about somebody . It being masculine because I don’t wear f*cking nail polish
      go f*ck yourself

  19. william

If they were musicians and his nails were dark colored, I wouldn’t mind. But if they were on the feminine side of it, it wouldn’t be my thing. But it’s a personal thing and I could care less.

  20. Matt

A little punctuation and proper spelling would help some of these posts make sense. I don’t know any heterosexual males who wear nail polish or get manicures.

  21. LEO

Last year I received a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure, after several months I finally bit the bullet and went and was pampered for a solid 90 minutes.

Personally I really enjoyed the pedicure. My feet were completely rejuvenated, all the dead skin removed, after soaking in the jacuzzi foot tub.
The final two steps were a foot massage, and painted finger and toe nails, the later I declined, however If I had polish applied, it would have been clear polish.

If anyone is sitting on the fence about a manicure and pedicure, take it from me it’s 90 minutes of sheer relaxation, in addition to the massage chair kneading all the knots out of your back. GO FOR IT !!!! You’ll enjoy every minute, and polish is a personal choice, which wasn’t for me. Your feet will thank you.

  22. hardrock10

Good grooming is essential. I regularly get pedicures because of the comfort and attractiveness. Jacked up feet are a turn off. But wearing colored nail polish is a bit too much. I can see a clear coat only on your nails as I do my with my feet

  23. Matt

Repellent! And I simply do not care if I’m judged negatively. Bitches paint their nails and I don’t want a bitch under me.

  24. Mark

I think it depends on the person, if I really like them and if they had a valid reason for wearing it. Also keep in mind that the reason they wear polish(like clear coat or flesh tone) is because they may have a nail condition(brittle or fungal infection) to cover it up until the infection is cleared up.

  25. Myke

I don’t do my fingers, but my toes! Black only. Don’t care what anyone thinks. And yes, I do them myself. I’m not girlie at all. I work for a bad ass Harley shop. So suck it! Lol!

    • Footboy

I saw a cute guy on the gay nude beach in jersey last year that had his toenails painted with a clear glitter polish!
I thought it was so adorable that I have had mine painted with the clear glitter ever since.

I personally really like it, I do have a foot fetish though, so it would have to be on a guy whose feet I’m attracted to;-)

  26. Gerry

yep HOW DARE YOU express an opinion that you dont like this nonsense. I dont care for anyone who wears too much hair product either, its doesn’t make me a hater. Guys should not be painting their nails, its dumb, and its not a guy thing to do. Guys should not be wearing makeup either, its not attractive.

  27. Commandobttm

I like men who take care of themselves, clean cut, clean shaven, some manscaping and of course a manicure, with clear polish only.

  28. Jer

What is so amazing , yet outrageously heinous is Gay men have such the opinion and nerve to claim some one is more masculine with out nail polish or without other so called effeminate qualities like haircolor or whatever but yet you who make such a declaration —couldn’t even look in the mirror and say you’re a decent human being and expect society to accept you for just being same Sex attracted . Yet you’ll put judgements on or deem some guy not hot cuz he has some polish or otherwise . Gay men are so hypocritical and so bitchy and love to deem what makes a man a man . Shame on you All . I’d say you have bigger issues to look at within yourself than to give someone a chance becuz of some thing like nail polish on a guy ., and to those of you who deem it a “bitchs” thing or that it’s effeminate . You may want to educate yourself about who wore started wearing makeup & Heels and many other things so called items that are deemed female appealed /related .
    !!MEN !!
You judgmental think your oh so hyper masculine douche bags

MEN DID IT & WORE IT ALL IN & THRU THE COURSE OF HISTORY …. I’d say you all who don’t like it .. YOURE NOT AS MASCULINE AS YOU THINK YOU ARE ..YOURE SADLY just conformists and couldn’t – nor would have actual balls to do any of it thinking it isn’t hot or would pose question on your masculinity … that’s where your opinions shouldn’t amount to anything really regarding this topic … don’t like it is one thing … posing it as less than manly … just shows your bitchy so called hypermasculinty — you wouldn’t call me a bitch or ? Me less than a man without getting your ass kicked

  29. Kevin

Clayton James aka Cib (a youTube personality) carries it off very well.

It depends on your overall look, attitude, and confidence.
