Gay Stuff : Pubes – Shave, Trim, or Let It Grow?

With “daddy” being all the rage nowadays, there may just be more than a few men out there who’ve set aside their razors for the meantime and let their body hair run rampant. But a recent study shows that letting may not only be sexy, it might be healthy as well.

In a study conducted by the University of California in San Francisco, it was discovered that shaving all of your pubic hair off could actually result to a higher risk of sexually-transmitted infections (STI).

After surveying more than 7,500 men and women, researchers found that small tears in the skin from shaving or even trimming makes it easier to catch infections. Not only that, it turns out that this who trimmed their pubes are more likely to engage in “risky” sexual behavior.

Some of the STIs that those who trimmed or completely shaved their pubes eventually contracted are herpes and HPV. However, they were less susceptible to pubic lice as opposed to the ones who never shaved.

To avoid heightening your risk of getting these infections, scientists recommend letting the skin heal first after your shave or trim before engaging in any sexual activities. Otherwise, it would be better to just forego shaving all together. Practicing safe sex should also go without saying.

Does any of this new knowledge change the way you look at your pubes, and whether you should shave it, trim it, or just let it grow? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Oh for fuck’s sake! EVERYTHING is “dangerous” these days, from drinking tap water to jumping out of airplanes! Has anyone bothered actually to READ the studies you cited, or is everyone simply going off the “sound bites” provided by the media? Increased risk of STI’s if you shave/trim? How much is the risk increased? Double? Triple? Ten times? 1000 times? If you actually read the study, it was conducted in Nice, France rather than in the US (makes a difference, as the French treat personal hygiene far differently than Americans … just breathe deep in a Paris subway to confirm that!). And the study was limited to just 30 people! The FDA and CDC would rightly laugh at so small a study group! Further, the “STI” addressed by the study was the virus that causes a type of wart, called molluscum contagiosum. It did NOT look for or ultimately show increased risk for ANY other STI. The reference to other STI’s was merely anecdotal and NOT the result of a careful scientific study. This is just a typical case of the non-specialist media sensationalizing something out of all context. As regards herpes and HPV specifically, if you review the medical literature, you will find study after study confirming that the incidence of asymptomatic HSV and HPV among men who have sex with men is already far higher than among the hetero population, with well over half of all gay men already having HSV and HPV. One study put the incidence of HSV infections among gay men at 75%! How can you “catch” something you’ve probably already got?!? This entire issue is making Mt Everest out of an anthill.
As for shaving/trimming/etc, most of us DO trim the hair on top of our heads and our faces, and we trim our fingernails and toenails. So why is trimming pubic hair or body hair so questionable? Pubic hair is just one more body part that grows constantly and so may need maintenance.

“In a study conducted by the University of California in San Francisco, it was discovered that shaving all of your pubic hair off could actually result to a higher risk of sexually-transmitted infections (STI).” No. This is how it’s being reported, but the study simply drew a correlation between the two variables using self-reporting by respondents, which isn’t as reliable as other forms of research. Also, all survey respondents had drastically lower rates of lifetime STI infection than the general population, so you can just as easily say that participating in a study decreases your risk of STIs. As is typical in these types of studies, further research was called for, and would be all that could indicate causation. If you like pubes, leave them. If you like to trim, trim. If you like to shave, shave. If you like guys with any amount of pubes, hook up with those guys. And regardless of which list you’re on, get tested regularly.

There’s certain guys that bald is hot on, and others I prefer to have something down there. Personally I keep mine trimmed, because I think my guy should floss before, not during play. Helps with crotch stink too.

  4. Jockstrap

leave it alone! why do you want to look 10? Who wants prickly trimmed pubes stabbing your lips while your deep throating ? stubbly crotch and ass is gross.

  5. VQ

I think natural pubes are sexy and I’m drawn to the hairy guys first. Besides the look, I like how a guys bush feels on my face and in my crack during sex. Let it grow!

I don’t know if this qualifies as “gay stuff” since the metro sexuals have been trimming, shaving, waxing their pubes for several years now. I personally hate the trend of guys shaving off all of their pubic hair. Are they trying to look like an under aged boy? Trimming is another matter all together. I personally trim just above my penis and around my balls. This so I don’t end up with hairs entangled in my rubber cock ring.

  7. T

I’m pretty smooth but have that nice triangukar full bush with hairy balls, taint and crack. I trimmed years ago but like the look of a full bush.

  8. SloppyBJ4U

I shave. I have been shaving since I was 17. I’m a married orally bi guy and I like to give more than receive from guys. I guess I prefer shaved because I don’t like choking on pubic hair. I like to lick dick and balls and generally worship a big dick and it looks and tastes so much better smooth.

If you actually took the time to read the study, instead of just the summary, you would understand that the researchers openly acknowledge that their conclusions are purely conjecture based on the flawed design of the study. They openly admit that they cannot say with any certainty that shaving or not shaving has any benefits, one way or the other.

If you are going to put up an article like this, it helps if you have all of the facts, rather than just passing on hysteria.

  10. Sexy_muscle_dad

Trimmed and neat (even a little bushy, but neat), but definitely not shaved. The “man scent” needs some hair to be present. Besides, it looks sexy too.

This is so fucked up. Gay men do NOT need “authorities” telling them what to do with their bodies, particularly to alter, manipulate, mutilate and anything else that is not natural and healthy. Leave your hair alone, unless it is more than six inches long, in which case you might want to trim it some, so it doesn’t get caught in your zipper. Sexuality is part of nature, so the more natural we are, the sexier we are. Gay men are constantly being exploited by commercial interests, from publications to sites to porn to bars, and they are all trying to control us. We must resist these negative messages. We must stop being victims and victimizing each other. And we have pubic hair for a reason, it is protective, attractive and other functions. Whoever is writing these blogs is being very obnoxious lately.

Baron, I have to laugh so hard (pardon the pun) at your comment “unless it is more than six inches long”. I am a lover of pubic hair and I ACTUALLY have many that are at least 6 inches long. Once in a while I trim an inch or so, but definitely nothing more.

Let it grow, let it grow
    Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it grow, let it grow
    Trimmed or shaved no more
    I don’t care
    what they’re going to say
    Let the bush rage on.
The cold bothered my balls anyway

  13. Michael

I can’t think of anything more tiresome than a guy that shaves or even trims his pubes. It looks desperate…seems simpleminded, shallow, trendy in the worst sense of the word and to me always reflects badly on the man who thinks it’s appropriate.

  14. rich

I’m shaved and I like it that way, feels good if you got to go solo.
I like men shaved or trimmed too.
I was once with a guy who had really hairy balls and I thought to myself,
god, this is like licking a cat.

  15. einathens

my preference is for trimmed pubes and shaved balls, fuzzy asscrack and bald hole.

two minutes with the clippers, 5 with the Magic Shave and it’s done.

  16. Naynay

When eating someone’s ass I prefer to not fight threw a jungle to get to the hole. I agree it’s unattractive to be completely bare. But keep your shit tamed some people just let it get to long.

  17. BaBa

I love a man with pubes and have a fetish for hairy ass… Grown men shaving their pubes is so infantile.. Damn, we are men, not boys..the hairier the crutch and ass, call me…
Frankly, I don’t know when did this trend started ….

  18. soft & fluffy

Putting aside the results of any ‘studies’ why would anyone want to torture themselves with shaving ?
When I was 21 I had surgery that resulted in the need for a total ass and pubic shave . The incision was 16” long but I felt nothing . It was the after effects of the shave that were worse than the operation itself ! I went totally mad until my fuzz grew back to more than a stubble . it was excruciating .

Besides , how the phuck does someone shave their entire ass and do a good job without cutting themselves to shreds ?

  19. nailman

I like to shave my balls and trim around the base of my cock. All else is natural. I like to feel my balls against my jeans and don’t care what anyone else thinks!

  20. Robin

I still think this is ridiculous. And stop making baseless accuastations. If you shave you must be a pedophile?? That’s ludicrous. If you can’t tell the difference between a 9 yr old penis and your BF’s penis without the help of pubic hair maybe the pedophile isn’t the guy with the shaved pubes.

  21. okzebra

all things in moderation nothing in excess. if I trim, it is around my shaft so the sucker doesn’t get hair in their mouth. it’s consideration.

  22. Dylan

I shave my balls bald and trim my pubes about 1 1/2″ out. Enough T to hold a scent and custom for your face when deep throating so you don’t hurt your nose. I met 2 Asian guys in Boston and both had shade hair. A lot of it. You couldn’t deep throat without glossing or getting hair stuck in your throat. Shaft hair is a fed turn off.

  23. latinlust69

I like my own stuff trimmed. Love a trimmed crotch and shaved balls and hole. But if a dude is hot, he’s hot, shaved or not

  24. harlequinsalem

If I wanted to have sex with a boy, well………………… I’d be gross!!!! I mean I don’t want it to look like a button on a fur coat either trimming I think is necessary!!!! Just like facial hair it’s hot as long as it’s maintained 😉 if u let it go u just look like Ur homeless!!!!!
