Breaking : George Michael Dies at 53

George Michael, former Wham! member and successful solo artist in his own right, “passed away peacefully at home” today, in a report by the BBC.

According to the report, Michael’s body was found by the South Central Ambulance Service in Oxfordshire at 1:42pm GMT. There was no foul play or suspicious circumstances involved in the death, according to the police.

In a career that spanned several decades, Michael has sold more than 100 million albums, both as a member of the boyband Wham! and as a solo artist. It also seemed that Michael was going to put out new material in collaboration with producer and songwriter Naughty Boy, who had worked previously with Sam Smith and Zayn Malik.

Michael’s health had been a subject of speculation in the past few years. In 2011, the singer postponed a number of concert after contracting pneumonia and needing to undergo subsequent treatment. He had appeared in his London home afterwards and revealed that his health had been “touch and go” during the treatment.

During his time with Wham! Michael had hits like “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and “Careless Whisper”. As a solo performer, he charted with songs like “I Want Your Sex” and “Faith”. Michael was also involved in a bathroom sex controversy in 1998 after being arrested in a sting operation in Miami.

Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, Michael has won three Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, four Ivor Novello Awards, three American Music Awards, and two Grammy Awards.

One of my fave song EVER with Whitney below. I bet they’re singing together tonight!

Thanks for sharing that video! I’d never seen or heard it, and now it’s one of my favorite performances by both of them. They really brought out some great energy in each other!

This is a clear example of the negatives of “gay culture” and why I disassociate from the majority of it. George was very pretty and tan….very ethnic-Greek….but (due to the loss of his first, true lover Anselmo, to AIDS….only months after their relationship blossomed…and the loss of his Mom), years of hard drugs, cigarettes, alcoholism, wild, anonymous sex (and no it isn’t speculation….he’s often come clean about this) prematurely aged such a GIFTED, TALENTED, GORGEOUS MAN. [Almost] like PRINCE, George wrote, produced, played instruments, sang…AND was good-looking.

I still supported George’s music in his later years, but I feared this day would come. I’d also look at how much he accelerated his aging process and wrecked his body. Like….THIS was the same model, from the 80’s and mid 90s!!? Sadly, this result occurs among many gay males. Even after this tragedy, there are guys online who are still seeking to “party”, or constantly indulging in drugs, anonymous sex, etc. They think they’ll be young forever and don’t realize they look HORRIBLE in their late 30s/40s….due to years of drugs and a reckless lifestyle.
I’M SO ANGRY about this unnecessary loss. I’m angry at Prince for not seeking effective treatment for his health issues (which his sister knew, but didn’t discuss…and he constantly toured as if he was fine)….and I’m angry at George Michael for being stubborn, (sometimes) arrogant, and allowing his depression to drive him further into his addictions. Both snatched their spirit from friends, family and fans, much too soon.

And according to US media, he “died of heart failure at home surrounded by his family.” His death is much more a thing of profound pity than the sadness of his loss. In the end, all the success, all the fame, all the money, all the millions of records sold, all the millions of adoring fans, all the homes, all the cars, all the $500 shoes, all $500 haircuts, all the fabulous vacations, all the meetings with the RIch and Famous of the Globe, all the $50 pieces of underwear, even great looks did not bring happiness.

He died of heart failure. Too much damage to his heart trying to escape the painful anguish of the emptiness behind all the success, all the fame, all the money, all the millions of records sold, all the millions of adoring fans, all the homes, all the cars, all the $500 shoes, all $500 haircuts, all the fabulous vacations, all the meetings with the RIch and Famous of the Globe, all the $50 pieces of underwear, even great looks.
