Health : Justin Trudeau Donates 800 Million to Cure HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS remains one of the world’s deadliest diseases. In 2014 alone it resulted in 1.2 million deaths and has killed more than 39 million lives worldwide.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Canadian government are ready to put an end to it, once and for all! They recently announced a pledge of a giganormous $785 million to cure the diseases. The goal as stated in a news release sent out by the Prime Minister Monday is to save 8 million lives and prevent 300 million new infections.

The Prime Minister announced alongside the funding that Canada will host the Fifth Replenishment Conference of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria in Montréal, Quebec (A4A’s city!!!) on September 16, 2016, stating, This is an historic opportunity for Canada and the world. By fast-tracking investments and building global solidarity, we can bring an end to three devastating epidemics – AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria – that have tragic and far-reaching impacts on the world’s most vulnerable people.”

Canada is demonstrating outstanding leadership in global health and development. Prime Minister Trudeau’s insight and his government’s commitment to global partnerships and cooperation will help save millions of lives and create opportunity and prosperity for countless more.” said Dr. Mark Dybul, Executive Director, at The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

And yet you have poz guys offering, as they put it, their “toxic venom” as a sexual fetish to dumb chasers, who think “converting” is a sexual fantasy.

I agree, Roberto. People today seem to have a death wish for themselves and there community. I was just getting started in the 80’s when aids came on the scene. I have known many people through the years who are gone now, because of aids. With all our knowledge today on how to help prevent the disease, you would think the disease rate would of slowed down, but it seems to be as rampant as when it started today.

Saying that your government is going to pledge money in this fashion is hardly a “donation”. As if it were his money personally. Please! Just another theft of taxpayer funds in the guise of helping cure disease. Without a market incentive this will be wasted money. Better yet would be to say they’ll buy all the hiv vaccine that works.

Unfortunately this sort of thing results in being just another cash stream that everyone within arms reach will line their pockets with and very little will end up going toward the cause. Is always the way with govt, taxpayer, or charity funds. And such announcements are just political hype. Tell us when somebody finds a cure. Throwing money around is meaningless.

YES THE WORLD’S MOST VULNERABLE..BUT ARE THEY THE WORLD’S MOST VALUABLE…???

JUST NATURE’S WAY OF DECREASING SURPLUS …

Justin didnot donate that $$$$..the taxpayers did!..give the credit where it is due. He’s just a celebrity phony. I love two handed liberal politicians.
    Thxs Canada

Jay: yeah at least he is doing something great with our money! Not sending stupid army tanks and planes for war was another great move. I’m very happy with my decision to vote for him. He is young, modern and at least doing some great things 🙂

It’s not from Justin and it’s not a donation. It is the Canadian government spending the Canadian taxpayers’ money. Good cause, sure, but this gay fanboy fawning over Trudeau is a little nauseating.

    From amfar:

As of March 2015, 15 million people had access to antiretroviral therapy.
The cost of my drugs, monthly is $1500.00

Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that each persons’ therapy costs the same, that’s 22,500,000,000, yes. 22 billion, 500 million PER MONTH!!

If you think big pharm, insurance companies, hiv clinics, and doctors are going to give that up, you’re all crazy.

Don’t get me wrong, it’d be great, it’s just not gonna happen.

Dave, this is indeed good news despite what the cynics think. Glad to see Canada taking this positive step. As I understand it, the funds will go to the Global Fund which has done much good fighting these diseases in Africa where they have devastated some of the worlds poorest people.

This is a great step forward in finding a cure for 3 diseases that kill millions of people yearly.. Without the funding in the past, we wouldn’t had mafe the strides in HIV that we see today. Because of the funding we know that the HIV virus mutates from person to person, we have preventative medicine aka prep to help you not become positive, instead of taking multiple medicines to treat HIV, you now only have to take one pill a day(not to mention fewer side effects).. This funding is good, cause theres been 2 cases where HIV was cured in both people doing bone marrow transplant and using stem cells.. We need this funding, so with in the next 10-20 yrs we have a SOLID cure..

This is great news!! I wish USA would match it! Re the death wish crap…. I for one do not have a death wish and I try to alwsys use condoms but sometimes I’m just an idiot and let strangers breed me with no condom.. And sometimes it’s multiple guys… So far I’ve been lucky,,, I asked my dr about getting prep…but he said no..it’s not a sure thing….

Such negativity and cynicism in these posts. . . makes me sad. Go, Canada and Prime Minister Trudeau. Prove the doubters wrong.

  13. James

The gesture is suspect at best. Prevention is self propelled in our community. Until you change a mindset no amount of money can fix the underlying causes or truth. Condoms suck, the lucky few of us that have insurance or money to pay for PrEP are limited, and above else (even after research on this guy) selflessness is key to end it all. He sleeps well at night but even treatment and prevention is a billion dollar business first and foremost. I love your posts but sorry I’ll skip buying into this.

To Blog. This is not negativity this is the reality. Canadian government pledges to invest into finding cure for HIV is not the same as the private donor giving his/her own money. Also, a little FYI to everyone in case we forgor cardiovascular diseases are number one killer in the world not HIV not AIDS. And unlike HIV those diseases cannot be stop by simply putting a condom on your manhood. So I much rather have these funds go to cardiovascular and cancer research.

    • blog

Billclitor: yeah there’s tons of money invested for that too, check it out. What you need to understand here is that Canadian government previously stopped funding HIV research when the previous Prime Minister was there. Because he was anti-homo (stopped HIV funding, not in favour of gay marriage, etc). Justin is young, fresh and in his era. I just see positive things with that investment. 🙂

I am stuck on Ray’s comment about the financial aspect he presented and it makes me sick to my stomach. Just to even phatom that such could exist is scary. Imagine the money that is made from medicine for cancer and diabetes combined with the hiv meds. What would all those doctors, pharmaceutical companies do if we found a cure for those big 3 diseases? What would happen to cancer centers around the world? Hiv clinics would close down…. Peeps we talking about alot of money and jobs. Who would pay their mortgages, student loans, etc? This is a dubject that got me really thinking…Great article and I hope and pray that huge donation will lead to a cure in the very near future and not 10 to 20 years.

I don’t see the reason why we have to be sooooo judgmental. Humanity will never be happy after all.

The fact the “some” gay guys choose to be complete assholes, while knowing their HIV + status, it does not mean every HIV positive guy see it the same way.

Being HIV positive feels like having a thread inside of you, waiting to explode some day. It makes value every second of your life, every breath.

I feel “HAPPY” to hear that some is actually willing to invest funds to FIND A CURE for HIV – and not just treat it. I understand pharmacist and doctors will not enjoy this type of news but, it is time to actually bring some HOPE to people infected with HIV.

    THANK YOU!

    check out AIDS.gov

“The U.S. government investment in the domestic response to HIV has risen to more than $24 billion per year.”

I googled ‘united states budget for aids research’

    just sayin’
