Music : Singer Prince Dies At Age 57

Pop music Superstar Prince has been found dead at his home in suburban Minneapolis. His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told The Associated Press that the music icon was found dead at his home Thursday in Chanhassen.

The singer, songwriter, arranger and instrumentalist was widely acclaimed as one of the most inventive musicians of his era, drawing upon influences ranging from James Brown to the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix. The Minneapolis native broke through in the late 1970s with the hits “Wanna Be Your Lover” and soared over the following decade with such albums as “1999” and “Purple Rain.”

On Friday, Prince was released from the hospital and returned to his Minnesota home after making an emergency landing in Illinois. Prince has been battling the flu for several weeks, even canceling two shows in Atlanta last week. Those shows were pushed to Thursday, and, although still not feeling well, he performed anyway for a packed Fox Theatre crowd.

After boarding his private plane to fly home, the singer’s condition worsened, and the pilot made an unscheduled stop around 1 a.m. at Quad City International Airport in Moline. After receiving treatment, Prince was back on the plane three hours later.

Prince died at his estate in Carver County, Minn., on Thursday. The Carver County Sheriff’s Office had been investigating a death at the estate.

He will be missed!

Dave

Unlike any other artist who has died in my lifetime, today I am shaken(shook) to my core by the passing of Prince. I never met him but I wept like he was a member of my family. Why? Well, as a 48 y.o. gay black male, I’ve had him in my life simce a teen… Playing “Bambi”, “With You”, “Head”, “Lets Work”, “777-9311”, “Soft & Wet”, “Nothing Compares To You”. Those songs lept into my head… the B-Sides I loved not just the big Purple hits. Grew up with them… with him.
As a gay teen, young adult, i saw his androgeny and refusal to conform to societal gender norms as inspirational and empowering. THIS is the reason the LGBT Community should respect and pay homage to Prince. I’m doubtful it will, but it (we) should. Who knows if he was bi… He was comfortable & clever enough to allow his sexuality to be shrouded in mystique. To this day, I love that about the man. Standing 5’2″ without the he so loced, he was… IS a giant, an icon, a legend. April 21, 2016 is a sad day indeed. We lost a worldwide treasure today. Heavy sigh.

I’m curious as to the cause of death. He must’ve had a underlying illness for the common flu to take his life. Could it be pneumonia, HIV/Aids, for H1N1 swine flu? Prince was very private, so he could have been gravely ill and not divulge what is truly happening with his health. Nevertheless, his music lives on. RIPPrince.

Charles I agree…a flu kills yes, but very weak people like very old people or sick people. I’ve heard HIV on twitter too. His sexuality was never really “confirmed” and his private life, very secret. Anyways, the reason is not our business right? But I agree we are always a bit curious…
May he rest in peace !

I’m seeing reports online that he was very recently treated for an overdose.

Regardless of the cause, it’s very sad to lose someone so young.

Tom: The rumour is that he got treated for an overdose last week and his team said “flu”.
Let’s wait for the results, in 2 weeks.

a very sad day indeed ,one of the most talented people of this era, he was always his own man ,those who questioned any thing about him were left to their own answers,,
his music may live on forever but his spirit and self respect will be sadly missed may your soar with the doves

    Really?
I’m dumbfounded at the pettiness that some of the members of the gay community dwells on!!!
Who cares if he died from the flu or whatever was the cause of his demise!
Let’s celebrate his life and his accomplishments as a human being and forget the gossip!!! Maybe that way we could grow into a respectable community, a community that is looked up to, and not one that is not taken seriously because of the silliness of some of it’s members.
This is not intended to offend anyone but to offer a different point of view.

Rest in Peace Prince. Thanks for the memories. I remember the awesome halftime show you put on to a Super Bowl football game a few years ago. Remember those tight high waist pants too. 🙂

The world lost a truly unique and talented musician, song- writer, actor and singer who captivated us with his songs ,singing and his unique fashions .Who among us has not been touched by what he did .We have been very lucky to been privileged to have experienced his unique visions and their will only be 1 Prince and he is and will be missed, we are very sad that he is gone but can gain some solace in still being able to have his body of work to always keep him alive in our hearts and the joy he gave us .

I’m truly shocked by his passing, I read something where he did emergency land his jet and was admitted into a hospital, where from what I read was given a “Safer drug”. Well me being in the emergency services field, what we call a “Safer drug” is Narcan.
It’s purpose is to reverse the effects of opioid based drugs such as heroin. I don’t care if he was into that scene, his music and performances were incredible. I have every album he put out. He will be missed by many and I’m a little anxious on hearing about what took this awesome performer away at such a young age.
