A4A : Messaging System Upgrade

Hey guys, you probably noticed that we did an upgrade on the messaging system, we had to do it at night so it was down for few hours, it will still be partially down tomorrow and Friday during night time. We are upgrading our system because we have millions and millions of messages sent weekly so we needed to change something….

I’m not a pro but that’s what the developers told me. Don’t worry we won’t do these upgrades during rush hours! Just wanted to let you guys know. Everything will be smoother after and we do these changes to offer a better communication system between users. So please don’t contact our support team for that, they are aware of everything.

    I’ve been getting this notice every morning after 5am PST for 4 days now. Not in the evenings. Wouldn’t this have been better communicated AHEAD of time?

    The timing of these upgrades is really a pain in the ass! I’m a frequent traveler and it’s messed up some very good opportunities. Business guys connect early. It’s been going on for several consecutive days now and is really a pain. When does it end?

    Well the upgrade is a huge inconvenience since it’s not happening just at “night” it continues well into the morning 9/10 AM EDT. This notice is about 3 days late. A heads up would have been nice.

    Not true, guys. Maintain ended has been going well into mornings in Eastern and Central Time… Not overnight. It’s beyond an inconvenience but I hope the upgrades are worth it.

    You know what would cut down on the millions of emails sent weekly, if A4A stopped advertising in our inbox… I delete on average about 4 emails a week from my a4a inbox because of them sending among others, porn, shopping and vacation emails. if they cut those out the email server wouldn’t need nearly as much downtime.

      Anonymous : yeah and the site would close because no revenues would get in. Keep in mind that A4A is a free site and that our business model implicates advertisement in order to offer a free full service. I’m sure you understand that right ?

    Guys, don’t send me hate messages on the blog because the site is down at night. We are trying to improve the site, please be patient. I know it sucks, we are not happy to do that, but it is something we need to do.

    Dave…our point is we understand upgrades are necessary, however the upgrades started 3 days before your notice, also it rubs us raw (not in a good way) when u say upgrades happen at night but the system is still down at 9 and 10 in the morning. I don’t know what you consider rush hour but the morning is when you confirm your day…..just saying

      Thomas : We had to do 5 times 5 hours of maintenance. From 3 am to 8 am Eastern Time. The traffic on A4A is at its lowest between these hours, that’s why we did it then. Again we are very sorry, but we had to do it in order to maintain service quality.

    To Dave: just an observation, as an outsider looking in.
    IMHO: No one is getting the others point in this conversion. In the end, your lack of notice is lame,your prolong down time is lame. Our lack of understanding is lame. But sending you hateful comments is not acceptable.
    It’s just something we all need to work through.

    Could you please fix the bug on the mobile app whereby if you open an unread message which is in the inbox above another unread message, when you return to the inbox, then one below is marked as opened too?
