Style : Burberry Pays Tribute To David Bowie
Burberry showcased its Autumn/Winter 2016 collection just hours after the world learnt about the passing of one of the UK’s most legendary musicians and style icons, David Bowie. A subtle nod to the king of glam rock saw models sporting glitter on their faces whilst one model displayed the letters ‘BOWIE’ scrawled on her hands.
But Burberry is definitely another icon, of fashion in this case. The company is known for its classic style, but the Burberry Prorsum collection (the higher-end runway collection) has a little bit more edge, thanks to Christopher Bailey the head designer.
There’s definitely a sporty vibe from the 70s in the Fall 2016 show : zip-up jersey cardigans are shown as a layering piece under most looks, vintage looking running shoes, loafers and medium blue denim pieces are few things that emerged from this era.
Outerwear has always been the strongest category for the Fashion House, known for its trench coat. You can see it in various sizes and colours in the show, oversized, cinched or short. Shaved fur bomber jackets were also a focal trend in the show, colour blocked, printed or plain, you can barely notice that they’re made in fur. The Burberry classic check print is also noticeable on scarves, jacket lining or printed on the jacket itself, oversized. The pants are baggier than previous seasons, the skinnier versions are shorter and show ankle.

Just another example of Mr. Bowie’s influence, even when deceased he’s out front.
