Fitness : 6 Tips To Control Your Weight During The Holidays
Hey guys , I hope that the Holidays are fun so far and that you enjoy every single minutes of it with friends, family or by taking care of yourself. Today I’d like to give you fitness tips on how to control the weight you put on during the holidays.
1- If you have a New Year’s Eve dinner, make sure to eat many small meals and snacks during the day. That way you won’t be so hungry to eat bad food at night. I eat 6 small meals per day, So the 31st, I will eat my #1 breakfast, #2 then my shake and green veggies, #3 my lunch, #4 my nuts, fruits and fat free cheese, #5 my New Years Eve meal and I will probably take a protein (casein) shake at night before bed.
2- Prioritize protein and veggies. You’ll probably eat turkey, chicken, beef or pork as a main course, so prioritize the meat and make sure to eat your veggies. Brocoli, celery, green pepper and all other green veggies are the way to go!
3- Be careful with sauces. Sauces contain lots of sugar, salt and fat. Treat yourself with a spoon or two but don’t put too much, you will double your calories simply by adding sauce.
4- Drink green tea before and after drinking alcohol. Green tea contains antioxidants which accelerate the elimination of alcohol and other toxins.
5- Make sure exercise on the 31st. Every time you do a “cheat meal”, try to hit the gym that day. At least all this “bad food” (high in calories) will fuel your body. I suggest doing leg day, because you always spend more calories when you workout big muscle groups like legs. I personally always hit the gym the same day and the day after a cheat meal, but most gyms will be closed on the 1st so think about it.
6- If you don’t like gym I suggest doing HIIT Cardio. HIIT is an abbreviation for High Intensity Interval Training. Many athletes use this type of training for 2 reasons. It doesn’t last long and it works well. What is HIIT? It’s a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short active recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time. I suggest doing 15 seconds of sprint (bike, treadmill, run, etc) and 30 second of slow active recovery (walk, slow bike, treadmill walk etc). Repeat for 15 minutes.
I hope that these tips gave you ideas. Please don’t be too strict about yourself either, it’s the Holidays, you need to enjoy. But you also don’t want to get that 10-15 lbs that you’ll want to lose in January!
Dave
My goal is to lose 30 pounds this year. Thanks for the tips
Dave I don’t usually relate to most of the things discussed in this blog and I notice that 90% of the times my comments aren’t posted, but thanks Dave for these tips, they are really helpful. What you said about working out on a “cheat- day” is a really great idea. I’m already a fit guy with a nice body, but your simplified suggestions were an easy read and are useful and practical!

Excellent dietary advice. Cardio sucks, though…great way to lose muscle mass. The green tea trick works, too…although you’ll be in le pissoir a lot more than you might think!
thanks Dave yea your right about eating small meals, lots of fruits n veggies help me a lot keeps me from being hungry, but i’m a man and man is a meat eater ribs – brisket-pulled pork-chicken, lol i’ll just have to hit the gym even harder a few more days
eat whatever you want and don’t bother with new year’s resolutions. they’re not likely to stick. besides, you’re going to die anyway.
First of all if you want to lose weight it ain’t easy. You have to decide what is more important the food or being the weight to want to weigh. I decided that food is not going to win I am. I lost 105 lbs when I was 17. But it’s been a perpetual fight since then. I went then from 275 to 170. That’s too skinny for me now. I weigh 209 which is okay. I don’t have white flour, white sugar or salt. I use stevia and only bake in olive oil. You can defeat the weight problem. It’s just a matter of will power not won’t power.
How about using moderation when indulging?
It’s the holidays. Don’t freak out over a few cookies, one glass of eggnog or a sip of champagne.
Tomorrow is time enough for broccoli and green tea.
Don’t like cardio? Try sex it burns a lot of cheat day calories and is a lot of fun 🙂
I ‘ve lost 25 pounds since July, down from 185 lbs in March. Then had a hernia operation in October…Now that I’ve got the OK from my Dr., I plan to hit the gym in 16 to flatten my stomach and tone my arms a little.
Oh God Jake, I feel for you. I’m going into the hospital for two hernia operations. I’ve gone from 241 to 209 since summer.Take care, hope you’re okay.
