News : Doritos Goes Gay
Frito-Lay is so gay! Yes, with Rainbows, a new limited-edition flavor inspired by the pride flag. Doritos Rainbows are a version of its Cool Ranch-flavored tortilla chips to show the chipmaker’s support of the LGBT community.
Rainbows is intended to bring “an entirely new product experience to our consumers to show our commitment toward equal rights for the LGBT community and celebrate humanity without exception.”
You won’t find these fun snacks in stores — you can only snag a bag of Doritos Rainbows if you donate $10 or more to the It Gets Better Project while supplies last.
Dave
it wont except my credit card
Ed: there’s nothing I personally can do about it. Contact them maybe ?
I really don’t see how they are being supportive of the community if they don’t have the guts to put them in the store!!!!! So I will say they are closeted supporters and in my final thoughts I don’t find them as supporters
bigboy1964 : 100% of sales, not profits, sales, is going to support LGBT causes.
A 6 oz. snack bag for a $10 donation. Sure to rival the Ice Bucket Challenge. Is this really social cause support or just another way to put the *BRAND* in front of consumers?
Big boy if they are closeted supporters I wouldn’t think they would make national news . If they were on store shelves they’d probably sell real well. For a 10 dollar private donation you know it’s going to go for a great cause . This probably wouldn’t have happened 10 years ago let alone 5 years ago . Baby steps . I think I’ll buy a box and send them to send them to Kim Davis . She could give every gay couple who apply for a marriage license a bag as a thank you and congratulations.
Don’t worry. The site isn’t accepting any of my credit card #s (they are all good) so It Gets Better loses out. Thanks FritoLay.
yeah thats great and all BUT they are sold out! uggh
Doritos contains HUGE amounts of MSG, recently confirmed the culprit to memory loss and alzheimers. Do your research about MSG. it is purely toxic. Even worse, food labeling (in Canada) allows MSG to be disguised and labeled instead as L glutamic acid, salt, and a list of other MSG derivatives. Avoid this addictive, ‘salty’ snack at all costs.
I feel Bigboy1964 hit it right on the head. I had the same reaction when I read this article. Sorry, Blog.
Why the cynical comments?
Of course Frito Lay is promoting its brand. But doing so in a way which supports the gay community in both a political and financial manner.
Would you guys who got up on the wrong side of the bed today prefer they be more like Hobby Lobby?
This campaign is consistent. For years, PepsiCo (parent of Frito Lay) has earned the top score of 100% on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking tool of corporate policies and practices pertinent to LGBT employees, as one of the “Best Places to Work.”
It’s always about the money isn’t it. How much money from each donation will go to help us. Very little. They’re pandering to the gay community to buy a bag of doritos. We’re used again.
A collectors item for sure. I will spend my 10 dollars at gay pride.
Love me some Doritos. Going to eat Doritos while watching Cinderella this weekend. I can’t wait.
As if doritos don’t have enough artificial crap in them already; adding more artificial colors is not helping the cause.
However, this is pretty cool.
I agree with Bigboy1964..wtf kind invisible of support is this??
I guess Im in the minority (of a very VERY small minority) but I don’t like being pandered too. What “rights” exactly do we not have that others have? The last time I looked the Bill of Rights applies to everyone. I think there needs to be a lesson in the definition of “rights”. Oh wait, scratch that. We have a hard time with the definition of words. This is meaningless.
I don’t mind the fact that it’s a donation, and in fact I think that it’s pretty cool.
The fact that it’s $10 minimum for a small 6 oz. bag of chips that are rainbow colored (and not even actually rainbow for each chip, they’re literally all just a single color) is a bit much.
If I recall my sizings correctly, just a 10-11 oz bag is around $3-$4 in a store, and that’s more chips inside it. Around 7 oz is $1.50, and that’s still at least one more chip.
Hell, even a 16 oz party pack one is only about $4-$6 depending on where you get them.
So we’re talking I could get roughly 2 party pack things of chips for about the same price I’d be paying for a 6 oz chip pack with mono-colored chips that form a rainbow. And it’s perfectly alright “because it’s a donation.” That just really doesn’t sit well with me. If the donation requirement was halved at the very least, then I’d consider it more…but $10 MINIMUM for a 6 oz bag is far too much, whether it’s going to a good cause or not.
Put them in the store’s.. Then u got my vote
They are already sold out. Ebay has buy now $250, lol.
Just another case of big business whoring themselves out to the bandwagon….I really think it’s insulting. I preferred being gay when it was fringe. All of a sudden everyone loves the gays they hated for years….something doesn’t smell right. Could it be money? Not at all impressed. How about if you give the money to AIDS research, and start showing a little (just a LITTLE) respect to the gay community…it’s all about money.
ANOTHER exploitation of the current “gay is cool” fad. No thanks. And don’t THINK for a second that ALL that money after cost goes to “LGBT causes.” Someone, somewhere, is most likely lining their pockets nicely with this little scamola. I remember how the AIDS Project LA execs were buying McMansions and Benzes on the six figure salaries they were getting to do essentially nothing during the midst of the pandemic. Again, NO thank you.
Stupid shits.
Its about money…
You think they care.
Oh Bi the way.
I live in seattle.
I got rainbow fucking crosswalks,
They don’t care I don’t care.
STOP WHINNING.
Hey, boys! Have you ever heard of “social marketing?” This is a fairly recent development in the age-old industry of selling stuff to people, whereby the marketer partners with a charitable cause (or claims to) and splashes their packaging with the promise to donate an amount of money to the charity when you purchase a unit of their product.
Many companies have sold billions of dollars in product by printing a pink ribbon loop on their packaging, claiming that your purchase of their product would result in a contribution to the Komen Cancer Foundation. Some companies have made the promised contributions, but most have contributed far less than they led consumers to believe. In many cases, they made no contributions at all.
Here we have a deal where you give up your name, address, sexual orientation and credit card number – highly valuable marketing data – in exchange for about a nickel’s worth of chips. Who do you think is benefitting the most from that transaction? It ain’t the “It Gets Better” folks!
Buy the chips if it makes you feel better about yourself, but understand the nature of your transaction.
So…why isn’t this actually a gay flag…no one seems to notice, that this isn’t a gay flag (6 colors)…it’s a regular run of the mill rainbow…like the ones that God makes in the sky or that comes out of a prism (7 colors)…??
How long does it stay fresh in the bag? Maybe I’ll collect one for the LGBT Museum.

They have run out of bags.
