The prostate also performs its own function that is it secrets a milky, slightly acidic fluid (with pH just about 6.5) that contains citric acid used by sperm for ATP production, also contains proteolytic enzymes such as prostate specific antigen (PSA),pepsinogen,amylase etc. Also contains seminalplasmin an antibiotic that may help decrease the number of bacteria in semen. Prostate secretions makes about 25% of the volume of semen. The seminal vesicle secrets an alkaline viscous fluid that contains fructose(sugar),postaglandins and clotting proteins. Secretions from here makes up 60% volume of semen. They all do kind of similar stuff but from different glands or sources.
