A4A : Long Weekend Drinks

drinks

First of all I want the wish everyone a very nice long week-end! Memorial Day weekend officially kicks off summer for our all our American friends. It’s a time to share with friends and family, enjoy the sun, go out, relax and ….drink. There’s nothing more refreshing than sipping an ice cold cocktail on a hot day at the beach or on a terrace, don’t you agree?

Which cocktails are your favorite? I don’t personally like strong drinks….My friends all call me “gay” because of that lol. My favorite would be the Cosmopolitan: Vodka, cranberry juice, a hint of Grand Marnier, and orange zest, yummy!

Tell me which one is your fave and feel free to share your recipe with other A4A users.

Dave

Cosmo? Really gay. I go for Vodka and Sprite, dash of energy drink. Do I order these at a bar? No, because they screw it up. I make these at home. At the bar it’s usually Corona and shot of tequila…over and over again.

the five questions that i ask my date:

#1: how much money do you have?
#2: you do have a house, not an apartment…correct?
#3: what are your feelings on benghazi?
#4: how much money do you have?
#5: does wendy williams annoy you as much as she annoys me?

I agree, the Cosmo is pretty, but an almost equally gay drink that’s my all time favorite is the “Rose Kennedy.”

Vodka, tonic and a splash of cranberry for color. This drink is so unknown outside the northeast and Palm Springs, the bartender at the Rihanna concert last month didn’t even know what it was.

    Cheers to Summer!

    SoCo Tea

    1 cup crushed ice in a 2-cup glass/cup
    1/4 cup Southern Comfort
    1/4 cup Whiskey Sour Mix
    1/4 cup iced tea
    1/4 cup cola soft drink

  5. Slade

    “Head Over Heels Martini”
1 oz – Crystal Head Vodka
    1oz – Orange Liquer
1 oz – fresh squeezes orange juice
    1 oz – lemon juice
    1/4 oz – rum
Add Ice with the above in a shaker and enjoy.

Almost as good as a Buddha Hand Martini but the Buddha Hands are not in season.

  6. Slightly Tipsy

    Screwdrivers are my favorites.

The original being vodka and orange juice.
The flat head screwdriver being vodka and pineapple juice.

Another that I’ve found to be good lately is a Vegas Bomb.

Crown Royal, Dekuyper, and Red Bull.

    I’m thirsty…

I have not had a drink in close to 4 years, but if I did have one I would want a banana colada like I had a bartender making me for a week straight in Puerto Rico back in the day..You need a good blender, a banana, about 3 oz. coconut cream, and about 4 good shots of golden or dark rum,and some ice..Whiz that up real good, and there it is…Or at the Chinese restaurant I once worked at..a FOGCUTTER..Hawaiian punch mixed with a bit of pineapple juice, a shot each of rum, vodka, gin, and ginger brandy…Fabulous, and VERY easy to get plastered on!!

    Moscow Mules

A drink I came up with years ago I call the captains kraken
    Take a pilsner glass
Add about 2 shots of captainn morgan
Add monster to fill the glass
That’s all there is to it.

This was not a long weekend to spend with friends/family. This was supposed to have been a weekend of remembrance of the sacrifice of that soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines made in combat.

It is stories and commentaries like this that the perpetuate the belief that Memorial Day is just a free day off to spend at cookouts and for retail sales events.

I sincerely hope that you do a better job in the future of recognizing those that gave so much for those who so easily forget.

  12. RootsWithWings

Jameson’s Irish whiskey over ice and Fresca.
Good stuff no calories or sugar.
Try it before you condemn it.
Never feel bad the next day.

  13. Rob

Memorial Day is not really about celebrating. It’s about remembering all those that gave their lives so that we could have freedom. Remember that. It’s okay to have a drink and a cookout but first of remember those who are no longer with us because they gave their lives.

So if there are gay men there must be cocktails?

What’s next, the techno playlist and must-have capri pants and cropped tanks?

How gay do you think we all are?

Cocktails vs. Drinks is a posting I’d like to see.

I like the Cosmo. Going to start calling it the rose Kennedy from now on, thanks for that tidbit. A Cosmo in a bar never tastes right to me. I make them at home to debilitating ends:

    3oz. Vodka
    1oz. Diet cranberry juice
    .5oz. Triple-sec
    1/4 wedge lime

In the summer months, when it is hot I like a good old fashioned G&T again with plenty of lime. Otherwise I tend to drink scotch, neat…

  16. mamas boy

as a friend of bills, I urge all my fellow homersexuals to please refrain from the use of alchohol for its the devils concoction and will do nothing but put you in a bad place. As my mama used to tell me, Bottoms Up .

  17. Frankie_Wills

I like Piña Colatta if that’s one gay drink then that’s ok w/ me. That’s my drink w/ my gay friends but overall I like having just a regular brew or if I’m celebrating I love tequila shots w/ a Coke chaser. Love a nice screwdriver from time to time. Now the summer is here, I love the Bud Light Lime Straw-Ber-Rita’s! I can’t get enough of those! cheers! Lol

  18. luv2eatcum

Vodka, orange and cranberry juice, with a splash of pineapple juice. Or, vodka, ginger ale with a splash of cranberry juice.

  19. Steve

    Thanks, Rob . . .

You put it so well . . . a day to remember those that have given their lives so that we can enjoy what we have here.

Flag has been on the house since daybreak. Not a military family here either. It’s just what this holiday is about. A visitor from Europe a few years ago noted that he was amazed at the number of US flags he’d seen flown during his visti … even during the non-holiday period.

The drink of choice is vodka on the rocks with a splash of … depends on the time of year, the weather and mood.

Not hung up on one Vodka brand either. Vodka-holics who swear by one brand have been shown to not be able to tell the difference after several sips.

  21. Craig

My personal favourite has always been a Californian Root beer
    1 part Kahlua
1 part Gallliano (which you can stir or float)
    2 parts club soda
    1 part cola

It’s also occasionally served with the occasional splash of beer but that’s not really my cup of tea personally.

  22. jake

Yes, Memorial Day is for remembering those who died ….but remember they fought for our freedom…so we have to celebrate life , that’s the best thanks to them!

  23. Wayne

This holiday is a combo of remembrance and celebration, remembing those that have given their lives for our country and celebrating them. Being prior military I celebrate my fallen comrades because they deserve nothing less. My weekend drinks are going to be vodka & pineapple juice, and Long Islands with orange juice instead of coke, they slide down just right 😉

  24. Mitch

    Scooby snack

    1 part melon
    1 part coconut rum
    1 part creme de banana
    3 part pineapple juice

    Top with whipped creme

  25. Handson

I love a LONG Island(er) ice tea. I got a Brooklyn Long Island Ice tea once and it seemed 3 times stronger than the regular one but can’t find the recipe online. Cheers to summer men!

  26. Scorpio7

Memorial day isn’t about drinks, bbqs, camping or summer. It’s about remembering or fallen heroes. Everyone seems to forget that and instead go to the store for the big sale.

  27. tom

Back in my drinking days I would always like a ice cold Grey Goose martini. 3 or 4 of those and you’re ready for anything. And I do agree, please remember why we have this holiday. To all who served and gave their lives for this country, you have my upmost respect. To their families as well.

  28. Bubba

AFTER visiting the cemetery, to honor my fallen family and friends. We will celebrate the country we live in with grilling of burgers and brats. Beer usually goes best with this.

But there will be a pitcher of margaritas too!

1 ½ oz. Dulce Vida Tequila
    ½ oz. Agave Nectar
    2 Strawberries
    Orange juice

Muddle Strawberries and agave in shaker.
Add tequila and a splash of orange juice.
    Shake gently.
Strain into a highball glass of ice.
Garnish with a slice of strawberry.

BTW…. Barbecue is NOT a verb. It is a noun. You GRILL steaks and burgers, you smoke a brisket or a pig.

  29. JC

    Another twist on the Cosmo:

    In a shaker add…

1 oz. each Absolut or better Peach Vodka, Triple Sec, Grand Marnier.

    Two oz. cranberry juice.

    Plenty of ice.

Shake well. Strain into a frosted martini glass. Garnish with a lime twist.

If that’s too strong for some tastes (WTF?), add just a little club soda.

  30. Del46

I’ll remember my dad who served in the army and my father-in-law who served in WWII with a shot of E&J and glass of Merlot, respectively. My drink…

    6 oz glass
    1-1/2 shot of Absolute Citron
    Dash of Triple Sec
Dash of lime juice (sweetened is okay)
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    Three maraschino cherries
Fill the glass with ice and top-off with tonic water

  31. vampyre927

My favorite Summer drinks: Lemon drops(Vodka and Fresh Lemonade) Vodka and Pineapple juice,Vodka and fresh Peach juice, Coconut Rum over ice.And if its really “HOT AND HUMID”
Wooder(as we call it in Philly) because I cannot drink alcohol when its really humid!

  32. Brendan

A Scarlett O’Hara been drinking these since college, many years ago. Southern comfort, cranberry, with a twist of lime. A little bit sweet, with a strong kick.

  33. Amite_Music_Man

The perfect Summer drink. Absolut Vodka, Pineapple juice, pink lemonaide, and a splash of grenadine. Tall, cool, and refreshing.

  34. MAOthello

Nothing is better or more historic than a Pimm’s Cup. A few splashes of Pimm’s with tonic or sprite. Pimm’s cups have been served for decades at the Wimbledon Tennis games.
