Music : VMA 2013, Scandalous

vma

Last night was the Video Music Awards where we honor the best in the music video medium.

Gaga opened the show with her new single “Applause” in which she managed to change costumes four times, including one where she was wearing shells to cover her boobs and a thong to cover her crack (first scandal of the night). The singer was booed at the beginning of her number but got a semi standing ovation at the end of her performance.

Then Miley Cyrus came on stage dancing with teddy bears (yes teddy bears) wearing a nude PVC outfit and was twerking around with the musicians and Robin Thicke in her nearly naked outfit. To be honest, that was terrible…and it is the second scandal of the night.

Then Justin Timberlake (one of the biggest winner of the night) reunited with ‘N Sync bandmates JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass for a spirited rendition of “Bye, Bye, Bye”. Justin also sang his greatest solo hits and this was a great moment!

Another scandal of the night was when Taylor Swift, known for writing those infamous breakup songs, dissed One Direction’s Harry Styles when he was presenting on stage. Swift was filmed mouthing “shut the fuck up!” in the audience. Everybody is talking about it on social medias today…I wonder how her PR team is dealing with that today….

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won “Best Video with a Social Message” for their marriage equality anthem ‘Same Love’. This is definitely one of the best song this year and I talked to you about it a few weeks ago, if you haven’t seen the video, check it out here!

Katy Perry delivered an uproar-worthy rendition of her hit single “Roar” underneath the Brooklyn Bridge, this was very good as well…

Check out some videos and the full list of winners after the jump!

*Take note that some videos were removed from youtube this morning, so I replaced them by others that are of bad quality.

I stopped watching anything MTV about 10 years ago. I hate all the controversy that goes into the bad behavior that is supposed to be televised to teens. I am sick of rewarding bad behavior, and yet we wonder why kids act the way they do.

Michael, i’m not sure, because I’ve seen backstage videos where Gaga was mad and almost left the show, because of the booing.
She told One Direction, that got booed as well, that they had to be strong and that they deserve all the success they have.

    Gaga
    Miley Cirus
    Justin Timberlake
    Katy Perry
And Taylor Swift … everybody was NOT talking about it today.

If you like them all and “LOVE!” being part of the trendy, cool, awesuuuuuuum hoopla that surrounds them, great. Far out. Enjoy. Your guaranteed right.

There are untold established artists and many new atists that meet the “aswesuuuuuuuum” qualifications of many gays. But they’re not part of this stereotypical pack. When will gays behind the “This kind of gay or no way!” decide that they musical “favs” have nothing to do with sexual orientaton?

Many people, including gays like these pop singers.
I agree that there are other singers, but today, i decided to post about the VMA’s

No, Dave/Blog — the booos WERE part of the song, it’s been reported on many news outlets today. And really…”backstage videos”? As if those couldn’t be faked? This is Gaga we’re talking about.

As for Miley, she’s pretty much fucked herself up but good. The Will Smith (and family) photo going viral aside, there’s a ton of people whose kids ended up seeing Miley acting like a complete twerking whore who had to explain why Hanna Montana was grinding against Beetlejuice’s younger brother.

    What. The. Fuck.

Yes you did post about the VMAs, but you only posted on the sterotypical “gay approved” (SCANDALOUS) contestants. What about the rest? Winners and losers? At minimum “for the whole story on the VMAs, click here (link of your choice) ” would have been posting about the VMAs without the sterotypical bias that contineus to divide gays from everyone else.

I didn’t watch the original VMA broadcast. However, I watched clips tonight. I’m not a big Miley fan. However, was she really doing anything more than you’d expect at the VMAs? This has never been a show for kids. She’s young, talented, and beautiful. I say hats off to her for the confidence she displayed and enjoy the ride while she can.

It’s amazingly sad how this country has become one large trash heap. I was reading where Joni Mitchell left the music business out of disgust over what it was becoming years back. The music business has evolved into nothing more than one of those cheap, sorrily staged reality shows which uses shock value depicting the lowest forms of trash in our society as it’s subjects. My father, may he rest in peace, always said that a culture could be judged by it’s music. At this point, I judge us guilty of becoming ourselves trash for even tolerating these clowns who supposedly provide us this form of entertainment. Entertainment you ask? It’s embarrassment plain and simple. It’s disgusting, low-class trash. I’ve said my piece……

  7. Fashion Fitter

LOVED KATY’s Perry look for the VAM Red carpet ,The fit was the BOMB ,Thats My Job / I rock it ,So THESE VMA WERE HOT ,110 percent ,really the best in years .Ofcourse there are some stupid idiots. BUT DONT BE HATERS ,its BROOKLYN <My Hometown .ALL Good ,Love the finale and JT 20 miniutes of HOT .

  8. John...

At the bar where I was at last night they had that show on and almost the entire bar crowd booed whenever Lady Ca Ca came on. I was really proud of my gay brothers last night.

Katy Perry was the only good act, the rest were mediocre to say the least and it’s about time for them to have the word “irrelevant” branded on their asses.

  9. LS

The booing is prerecorded…even the hype for her iTunes promo. The Haus of Gaga used reverse psychology in accordance with this song. “Stop the Drama. Start The Music” basically blocking out all negativity and criticism and to just enjoy her music regardless if you like it or not.

Also, I’m not sure where exactly I heard this but the ARTPOP album was influenced on the negativity that she got during her BornThisWay Ball Tour in other countries. So its an ongoing message of hers, saying we shouldn’t label her as a person, just enjoy the music (or any music you enjoy yourselves)

By the way, this is just my insight on hher music. But the booing is definatly a part of the show.

  10. LS

I just wanted to add that you were right about hearing her say that the she wanted to leave because of the booing. BUT before that she said, she heard people booing when One Direction won the award, and to not let that bring them down, and she admits “That’s why I put that in my show, I wanted to put a comment on that, I eant tk leave right now.” She didnt want to leave because of people booing her, its the negativity that people show, and don’t appreciate music in general. “Stop the Drama. Start The Music.””

  11. puftwaffe

Way too many posts in the last few weeks about music videos. How many people watch or even care about them anymore? At this point, music videos are culturally irrelevant.

  12. Skyfallguy

I hate Gaga. She should stop sucking Madonns tit. And no I’m not a Madonna fan. That’s sayin sometin.

Miley all the way!!! Even though she looked like a parTy girl tweakin (err twerkin…) meth, it was “AWWWESUUUMMMM”. The Smith’s reactions were priceless. And Rihanna and her crew always give face to bad performances lol (Remember Britney’s “comeback”. Her face was similar to that hahah)

I was pretty pissed that Robin Thicke didn’t win song of the summer, but I think he was snubbed cause Marvin Gaye’s family is suing him for plagiarism. Hence, One Firection winning (for a song I never even heard) and getting booed big time.

Justin Timberlake: President Of Pop. Buff said.

Drake? Or should we say AUBRY? Please boy. You started from the bottom of a china plate JIMMY (I still remember Degrassi).

Kanye is so throwed off after his Madre died. Get better man…

I was reporting every Taylor Swift Vine I saw.

Katy was pretty lame. I love that song and think she should performed on a piano instead.

  13. MasonTheMan

I don’t hate Gaga, but Skyfallguy got it exactly right with the rest of his points. The Drake comment was hilarious lol, but he was still robbed for best hip hop album. And yeah, Robin Thicke may have borrowed a few things from Marvin Gaye but definitely deserved song of the summer.

  14. Daren

Gaga was great. I don’t see why a selected few gays hate her so much. She’s just doing her thing and doing it her own way.

Miley was fun. She’s grown up and I think she’s a clear representation of what a lot of late teens/early 20s kids live for. A lot of party kids like to experiment, drink, take drugs, be promiscuous, etc and I’m glad she shed the picture perfect Disney image.

Katy was so boring. I looked forward to her the most since I like the song. The performance was very lackluster. She didn’t even sing the “ro oh oh oh oh oh oh oar” part which is the best part. I guess she’s only a self proclaimed champion.

I was talking with a black stud last night and he said, did you notice not one black person won an award. He said with all the Black talent and no winners. What do you think of this situation.
