News : Russia’s Anti-Gay Law

russia

Yesterday, the lower House of the Federal Assembly, unanimously passed a bill that makes the “promotion” of homosexuality to anyone under 18 illegal. it is now forbidden to tell anyone under 18, that gay people exist. President Vladimir Putin supports the bill and will sign it. Anti-gay violence broke out instantly in Moscow.

“During the melee, an unidentified Duma official from the Communist Party approached and shook hands with a policeman: ‘So are you guys ramping up the pressure on these faggots? Beat them up well! Cut their balls off!,’” said Versha Sharma at Vocativ .

I don’t know what to say…I’m totally shocked. I feel like Russia is going backwards and I don’t know if we can do anything?

Suggestions?

I’m sending all my love and thoughts to all our friends and users in Russia!

Stay strong!

Dave

It sucks, but sadly other countries are strongly driven by their religion. But whats going to happen when someone who is under 18 comes out the closet and he/she has no one to talk to? How are they supposed to deal with those who are gay/lesbian?

Russians are homophobic like few others. With anti-gay laws on the books, they’ll go after gay groups and even gay individuals with a vengeance. It may well come to pass that other nations, probably the European Union especially, will need to open their doors to allow refugees in from the new Soviet state.

Russia has always been working backwords the law they passed is just a plot to imprison russian gays and now they have a law to back them up when they want to do such! Makes me sick im so glad to be in the usa

are you really surprised? It is Russia, after all. No matter how forward they have been… well. at least they are bit further than the U.S. or they were/move to Canada/Spain anyone? somewhere where it is already legal. who gives the fuck if Russia say no.

This is a country which decided to use nuclear bombs to divert the course of rivers. Want to go to Russia? Bring a geiger counter with you, and if that thing goes off right after deplaning, get on the next plane out of there.

The last stand is usually the most violent. Third world countries are ruled by absolute power. Disagree w the few that rule and your balls will be handed to you on a plate in some gulag. Someone will make a stand. Just remember the guy that stood up to the tank in Tieneman Square. It will happen and usually there is some blood spilled. Let’s just hope it is kept to a minimum.

Wow all I can say is that things all over seem to be getting out of control…..hopefully love will one day rise out of all this hateful chaos

Putin thinks he’s so tough. He needs to have the crap beaten out of him by a big gay man, then raped by him. It’s a communist country – what else should you expect? At least, not much consequence, they aren’t being killed simply for being gay. Sickening.

Well, I guess I won’t be visiting Russia anytime soon.
I know my tourism dollars don’t mean much to them, but they are mine to do with as I please. And I choose not to spend them on a country that would try to outlaw me.

Sadly, that Christians, when faced with dilemmas, attack, they attack the week, the minority, the defenseless, and anyone that they deem different must be the cause of their problems. Some how they are unable to utilize normal coping mechanisms and look within themselves for the possible problems they are blaming on others. Putin blames the declining population on the gays. Sadly the declining population is due to the extreme high abortion rate the Christians over there are so willing to perform on their babies. Another major factor is drunkenness, leaving the average life span of a man there at just 59 years of age, and other factors included are affordable housing, lack of food, declining farm industry, high death rate, fewer people immigrating then exiting, and other minor factors… There are more abortions in Russia then births… Of course this is all the Homosexuals fault. Sadly they will plunge back into the dark ages, rather then seek solutions to the problems…

I totally agree with you Keith. Anything worthwhile doesn’t come easily. That has pretty much been the norm throughout history, and sadly, Russia’s history is synonymous with blood shed. So gay men and women there will have to take a stand and risk their lives in the process. But at the end of the day the change they seek will come.

Really? You’re going to say what would we expect from Russia who used nukes to divert rivers? We used two nukes on populated cities… The USA: “The first country to develop nuclear weapons and the only country to have used them in war. It spends more on its nuclear arsenal than all other countries combined,” (1). In The USA: “Today people of color continue to be disproportionately incarcerated, policed, and sentenced to death at significantly higher rates than their white counterparts,” (2). Oh, and don’t forget the fact that the USA didn’t even ALLOW those with HIV/AIDS to be granted visas or entry into the country until Jan. 2010, (3). And if we think we are the standard, the most recent research find the US…not the freest nation, but the 7th freest nation in the world. The Kiwis hold the prime spot there, (4). And you do realize, that if you lived in Russia and your government were recording your life..you would know, they wouldn’t deny, because they don’t give a shit if you like it. yet, many have suspected our government was doing this to us (hello idiots…what are they building in UTAH?), everyone cries traitor when the whistleblower points out that our government is acting like the asshole.

If anyone cared to notice the “under 18” , might want to consider what is happening in the U.S. in a similar situation with the B.S.A. (Boy Scouts of America). Sounds pretty similar, but then what adult would risk themselves with someone under 18.

I guess the long cold Siberian nights would became perpetually frozen, the Russian government never pass the ice age, and they never would became civilized

Where did you guys have this information from? I’m
From Russia but I live in the US. I checked all the Russian news sights and American ones but I can’t find anything about that law. I moved here because Russia is fucked up. They are pretty violent about gays.

  16. Keith

My roommate and I were reading about laws in Jamaica before her vacation last year, and I read that homosexuality is illegal there!!

I have friends in Russia and worry each day about the social lack of inequality!! It is in other places as well and if you are traveling it is best to check these things out as well. I love America!

Lets see, gays will be outlawed, beaten, jailed and maybe sent to camps in siberia…what next..little pink stars? hmm where did we see this last..wait for it..NAZI germany…I think its finally time we just start referring to putin as the der furer…I hope I live to see the day putin goes the way of Stalin, Hitler, Musselini and Goerbels…

  19. edgar_Truth

i don’t know what to say other than are you really surprised at this? I think a lot of gays (especially in the US) don’t realize that a vast majority of the world deeply hate and actively strive to eliminate homosexuals. So be thankful for what you have and don’t forget about the struggle of all those who came before us.

So the Russians decided to ban gay pride parades and instruction of gay pride to children. So what is new about Russia we should be saying. Oh yeah… The Orthodox Church now have a say in who gets prosecuted. There was a time not long ago when the many believers in Russia were all hiding and pretending to be communist, and those who choose to voice their religious belief was considered borderline psychotic or thrown behind bars. Now they find something new to pretend at and the former head of the anti-Christ movement who is now the President is listening to the Church. In a few years time their Nazi loving youths will be running the country and history will again repeat itself in Russia. For those who know Russia well you will understand that years of silencing those who speak out for their rights will continue. This is ingrained in their mentality and it will not be changed overnight. Those in leadership will always find a group to suppress.
