Pornstar : Erik Rhodes Found Dead

Falcon Studios contract star Erik Rhodes, 30, died at 5:30 a.m. this morning in New York from a heart attack during his sleep.

It is with utmost sadness that we make the announcement of Erik Rhodes’ passing,” the company said in a press release. “We offer our condolences to Erik’s family, friends and loved ones. He was a genuine and caring man with extraordinary attractiveness and a massive muscled frame. Erik was an equally beautiful human being who lit up a room, and brought fun and joy to our studio and his fans that was unparalleled. He was a giving person with a special wit, and he put his all into every performance. He wanted to give his fans the best he could every single time he stepped in front of the camera. Rest in peace, Erik and know that we are celebrating your life and your achievements, but we will miss you and all the special moments you have given us forever.

Rhodes began his career with Falcon by signing as an exclusive in September 2004 at the age of 22, shooting only one scene prior to joining the Falcon team. He remained an exclusive ever since. Rhodes also directed eight Mustang Studios titles during his career. He recently began shooting with Raging Stallion Studios after it merged with Falcon in early 2011. His videography includes more than 40 scenes filmed over the past eight years.

He was also a troubled man, by many accounts, struggling with drugs and depression.

“My name is James … I have worked in the adult entertainment industry for the last 7 years of my life under the name Erik Rhodes. I’m not sure how I ended up here, and I don’t know how I have survived this long … all I do know is that it can a very lonely place and sometimes I need a blog to get shit off my chest. So take it or leave it … here it is,” reads the profile on his Tumblr blog “Erik Rhodes: A Romance With Misery.”

Many of his blog posts and several of the comments left on his blog refer to his drug use, and recent binges.

“My cycle right now … 3000 mg of Test Enanthate a week, 2500 mg of Nandrolone Decaonate and 300 mg of Trenbolone Acetate. With 5iu of Human Growth Hormone everyday,” Rhodes replied. “I’m waiting until I pop. Or my liver fails … which ever comes first.”

Such a sadness & waste of life. Some think that porn stars have it easy, when in actuality they don’t.

  2. Don

    Oh my goodness how tragic.

I offer a Vulcan prayer. “May you find the peace in the after life that alluded you in this life.”

  3. Don

correction for the last comment here is the correct prayer
I offer you a Vulcan prayer. May your death bring you the peace you never found in life.

You would of thought you would of posted a better Pic of him. it looks like he’s sad and miserable in that pic. What Gives.

  5. Jason

OMG, this is very sad…I just saw Erik last week in midtown. He was a pretty cool guy, R.I.P we will definitely miss you.

  6. Allen

how sad to see a beautiful guy passing away like that. He is younger than me and had a heart attack!? Of course it is not uncommon now for young people dieing from heart attacks. Its very scarey to think of, but a reality check of taking better care of one’s body.

  7. Rickey Self

Erik Rhodes was a real good performer its too bad he had to die.I sure wish he could have gotten over what caused him to use the drugs.A handsome man living a troubled life.

It is a very sad situation to hear of James’ passing. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I never saw one of “Erik Rhodes'” movies, but I can only assume, due to the longevity of his career that they must be very good. It is also a sad situation to know that he spent the last years of his life in a place where the only place he could turn to was a BLOG. Cries for help on a computer, where the only people probably listening were people just waiting for him to take his clothes off. With no one to reach out to the world can become a very scary place and an even scarier place inside one’s mind. It is no secret that a lot of people in the industry have some troubles in there life and with that being said, there needs to be someplace established for them to go, or someone to talk to (who isn’t either gonna try to fuck them, or judge them) just someone there to listen and maybe offer some help. I hope that his passing will serve with some good to come out of it. We need to look out for one another as people. Rest in Peace, James, I hope you are able to find what you are looking for.

What a terrible shame! I am not familiar with his work, but I did read some of his blog after I saw this post. Perhaps the drugs and the steroids contributed to his heart attack. Maybe not. Maybe it was just time for his heart to give out. (I’ve known two young people to go in just this same way.) In any case, it is clear that he struggled with how to live in the world as a fully realized person. So many of us–gay and straight–go through the same struggles. I know I have, and continue to do so in different ways. It is a miracle that some of us make it past 30. Perhaps we can reflect and take something from this. My heart goes out to his BF and his family. A sudden death like this is extremely difficult.

I am deeply saddened by his passing.
It comes as an absolute shock to me to hear of his death.
My condolences to his family and friends.

His passing would definitely sadden the entire industry. As this dynamic stage performer has moved on to grater things.

    Rest in Peace

oh my god……my prayers go out to his family and falcon studios…..i loved him in cross country and other videos….r.i.p. erik……

it was the steroids. i think that because they have to look good for porn, they do whatever they can to get the bulk and muscularity. I watched something like this on true life on MTV.

  13. burke

this is so sad, he was one of my favorite porn stars the world will miss ur huge dick nice and hot body

    R.I.P

    ERIK RHODES

  14. Txman49

RIP. but not exactly a recipe for a long life. Sounds like a very troubled young man. Condolences and prayers to his family and friends.

  15. MarqueeTee

I don’t know who Erick Rhodes is, however have seen the name around in porn, but you can show me ten porn guys and I could not point out Eric. Pretty sad, I pray for him and family, in and out of porn. However his blogs posted showed a very fucked up guy and whoever close to him missed all the marks that he needed and asked for help. I guess as long as he worked and brought home $$, who cares. So sad. 🙁

  16. Daddle

Thats so sad it’s hard to look at people you see on tv and film in any other persona other then whom they pretend to be. I am a huge fan and saddened to hear of his passing.

  17. AJ

I know a lot of people who have said terrible things about Erik Rhodes’ passing — he set himself up to die, he was an asshole, he predicted his own death, etc — but you know what? Someone died before their time. If you can’t muster sympathy or sorrow for the individual, at least feel sad that a person died.

  18. David

Truth be told, many entertainers are sad, lonely people looking for acceptance and love – like everybody else.
Most comedians will admit to being very sad people with tough pasts, and most actors I know don’t particular like themselves and do whatever they can to be someone else.
Depression and drug problems are not exclusive to porn – look at sweet little Whitney back when she was an adorable pop star, then at the end, haggard and worn too quick.
Singers and dancers tend to be happier – I think the physical workout adds endorphins and lightens the spirit. Singers breathe like a yogi every time they perform, so that helps without trying.
Poor fellow – sounds like he fast tracked himself to the grave.

  19. trucker

sadly, porn stars, like truck drivers, make for very lonely individuals. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that porn stars live a very small existence and have HUGE fame in such a SMALL world compared to those “outside” the porn industry or porn viewership. It’s sad to see these men being used up by the studios and the fans to the point that they have to keep bulking up more and more in order to be noticed above the New crop of fresh faces….I never thought Erik was the best looking or the best actor but he did have a nice body but it’s sad to know he died so young… in his sleep or what have you, his sexual career led to this as well as many before him and makes me, at least, step back and think more about the porn stars are human beings instead of muscle studs that i’d want to be with… Regardless of how they GOT INTO the biz, the fact is they did and you see it time and again,, new stars show up, then they bulk up, then they retire or die…after the lights fade on them what do they really have to show for that period of time, sex on camera… not much to put on a resume or talk about w/ ppl outside the porn industry when it’s all said an done….. usually booze, drugs takes them down…. how unfortunate….

  20. Devin

This is so sad. But it is another example of the secret lives and pains we all deal with. Blessed Be James a.k.a Erik Rhodes. R.I.P.

  21. okzebra

this is really sad. a beautiful man like that with all that misery. what a shame he did not get help or be offered any, apparently.

  22. mike

who fucking cares? i forget about these people as soon as i’m done beating off. why can’t this blog talk about gay men who have actually accomplished something? by all accounts, this guy was just another self destructive loser.

  23. domtoppapi

We watch the porn…we enjoy what we see n envy what we think is a hott great lifestyle…damn we wish we could do the porn…but once again we hear the pain n saddness from someone who lived it when its too late…yes he chose the porn industry to make his living…just wish he had control over it n his life…RIP

  24. Rickie

He gave his life away. All those drugs coupled with growth hormone is a recipe for a swift death. He didn’t respect life so he gave in to the alternative. Never easy to lose someone if you connected with them or otherwise as human life is precious, but he started to live vicariously with his. Hope you all learn from his mistakes, and get help and use it if you are doing as he has done. RIP dude.

  25. Mike

Drugs, steroids, depression…same old story (Whitney…Amy et al) The owners of these porn companies need to wake up and accept more responsibility and do more to help those stars that spiral downwards in this way. I expect they see these young guys as dispensable lumps of meat

  26. Landon Davis

This is really sad news. I hope people are taking a lesson in humanity and when you see a person struggling try to reach out and lend a hand. He was obviously depressed and felt that there was not one person he could turn too. I am 29 years old and to imagine not being here another year because of something I did to myself is crazy. I really hope that people wake up and begin to know that we all serve a purpose and not to take each other for granted. Life is too short and was cut way too short for this young man… what a beautiful spirit he broadcasted to the world and his friends and at the same time a tortured soul. … you will be missed.

  27. Dennis

@Mike. Why is he a looser? Perhaps, you should look in the mirror first. All lives are important and special. You apparently can only see the superficial, if that. Such a shame.

  28. Dennis

And the cycle goes on. Another sad and tragic death. The more we demand of others, the less we offer of our own selves, and the more expectations we impose on others and we wonder why tragedies like these occur.

Beauty, true beauty, is more than skin deep. It’s more than muscles and hot bodies. It comes from with in.

A tragic loss in the end, and I can only offer my thoughts and prayers to those who were most important in his life. Friends, family, loved ones. They are the ones most impacted by this.

  29. Steve

What a tragic loss! Erik was a good looking guy and was good in his films.I only wish he would seeked help and maybe he would still be with us..May he rest in peace, and find true happiness. He will be missed in the industry. His best DVD was when he was in the Navy.

  30. edgar_truth

what do you expect from a society (not just gay but we are the main culprits) that puts such an emphasis on the physical and having the perfect body that people are doing horrible things to their bodies with drugs and surgery to achieve what? validation? no amount of muscle and fame can make them love themselves. I think a lot of people nowadays need to just love themselves for who they are as opposed to trying to be something for other people, for fame, for clout. but don’t listen to me, i’m just that bitter bitch at the bar who actively tries to put his cigarette out in the hair of the dude with way too much product in his hair.

  31. Bimascjock

Such a tragedy for someone so young to pass. I never saw his work but I have to say everything happens for a reason. I hope his death will be a wake up call for anyone who is on the same path or about to take that turn for the worse of drugs and streroid addiction. To CLO I have to say you are an idiot and to promote and say you will do more of one of the contributing drugs that killed him in his honor is selfish, ignorant, and just sad. Please guys learn from his mistakes METH kills and so do many other drugs, attribute steroids and it’s a cocktail for disaster

  32. Brian

If you all are so upset that the big bad industry made him do this, then here’s a thought: Stop giving them your money, and wash your hands of your complicity in his death.

But let’s face it; that isn’t going to happen. You’re going to feign sympathy and go on with your day. Some of you might even watch a flick or two with this unfortunate soul in a starring role.

The porn industry isn’t the problem. Its consumers are. While it can be argued that people who self-destruct on drugs or steroids have made a personal choice, a stronger argument can be made that all of you created the pressure for them to do so in the first place.

And no, I don’t watch porn. As you can see, it’s fairly degrading to the actors.

  33. Darryl

I just read the news about Eric Rhodes. It just goes to show that many porn stars have many issues they deal with from day to day. Add in a major list of drugs that can wreck your life. It’s very sad indeed to hear of his passing. My condolences to his friends and family. Many guys in the porn industry get there for many reasons, so when you meet them in person, just know that they are real people with real lives. Depression can complicate anyone’s life, so when you read blogs from people who are saying some serious stuff, offer a kind word or a listening ear. Who knows it could be a life line.

  34. grayson

As with most gay male porn stars, they burn out quickly. They never fade. Given what we know of the porn industry one can suspect that the sad plague of drugs and alcohol played an important part in this inevitable outcome for the star. But, at the age of 30 he was pretty much done with the major studios after his most recent contract expired. What kind of career would he have had after that? Appearences during pride season on the “Falcon Legends” float?

  35. Michael

Erik Rhodes sadly is not the first or the last gay porn star to die young. I think the poster Brian has a point the gay porn consumers have role too. We watch porn, jerk off, but we only care about the physical side of the porn stars. Someone should make a documentary about gay porn stars and yes the gay porn companies should be more accountable.

This guy’s death is a cautionary tale about how SHORT LIVED a porn star’s career truly is. Sure, a porn star can make money but they have a shelf life and they get replaced by younger porn stars.

  36. Chris

I’m shocked at all the victim blaming going on here. Have any of you actually done any substantive work with people who have dealt with addiction? I have, and I can tell you that addiction is a complicated thing. But as usual people who know nothing about it talk like they do. You judge so easily, yet you may have no idea what it’s like to deal with addiction. I am absolutely appalled by the moral incompetence of men I see online. I thought we gay men were supposed to celebrate sexuality in all its beauty and its forms, not descend into a feeding frenzy of judgment and cruelty. When I see comments like these, I get really disheartened at my community. What is going on here? A man has died and was obviously suffering greatly. Where is the compassion? And don’t get me started on the hypocrisy of watching someone’s movies or videos but then turning around and judging them. He is a human being who had a life and lost it. Show a little compassion.

  37. Chris

My thanks to Dennis for his compassionate postings. It really frightens me to think that there are people in the world who don’t understand that every human life has equal value. Our priorities have gotten seriously messed up.
