Two-time Grammy nominee Tim Bergling, popularly known as DJ Avicii, passed away on Friday, April 20. He was 28. As of this writing, the cause of his death is unknown.
The sad news was confirmed by his publicist Diana Baron through a statement that read, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.” She added, “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
The Swedish DJ worked with the likes of David Guetta (Sunshine, which earned him a Grammy nomination), Madonna (her Rebel Heart album), and Adam Lambert (Lay Me Down) to name a few. He was also behind the Electronic Dance Movement (EDM) hits “The Days,” “Le7els,” “Wake Me Up!,” and “You Make Me.”
Fans remembered him as one of the most popular and successful electronic dance music artists of all time, one who had been in the Forbes’ “Highest-Paid DJs” lists on several occasions. DJ Avicii however, retired from touring in 2016 citing health reasons. He reportedly suffered from “acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking” and in 2014, both his gallbladder and appendix were removed.
Apart from the Grammy nominations, DJ Avicii also won two MTV Music Awards and one Billboard Music Award. A few days ago, his final EP called Avicii (01) was also nominated for a Billboard Music Award for top dance/electronic album.
Rest in peace, Avicii, you will be missed.
Tim Berling * *^This Guy was
incredible
damn auto correct
I would like to be the first to comment on this brilliant Very handsome Very Inifinitely and prolificly talented young man – a very handsome yet very talented passionate Swedish DJ full of dreams called Tim Berling also known as Avicii, We love you!!!
I remember when I first heard a few of his songs some years ago when he was really hitting the airwaves but I’ve always heard this type of music in a dance club.
For years…..
I didn’t know how I felt about his song Levels but it was a hot and definitely a hot On the music charts and in clubs
it was definitely different . A sound that not like a lot of House ,trance and techno music from especially the late 90s into the new millennium and even into the next decade You could tell he was passionate had a fire for his art of music
He was brilliant – & obviously you could tell the guy could mix music produce and collaborate with other artists only to create great hits
& not just singles
but timeless pieces and sounds
I am so sorry for his family‘s loss but to all who love him -like I do
I understand their need and want for privacy during this very difficult time
I just want people to know that I really appreciate this guy for everything
That he brought in to music
I remember over the few years I’ve seen him up perform on videos and live at festivals and concerts and such and just grew to love him more but up until at least when he stopped performing live of which mind you I never did see him perform live for me which is just truly sad
but I understand his health affected that and whatever
As a sidenote is like to say it’s really too bad that alcohol and drugs plays so much into music especially a lot of different scenes like the EDM scene or like the hard rock or other parts of rock in roll and other types of music – & For many decades & far too long
Too bad great artists get consumed all too much and say too often over the course of time
It takes these bright young stars especially Way b4 their time and Wau too soon b4 we really get to see their full force of talent
I think the thing I appreciate about him the most as a DJ – as a producer -as someone who loves music
You could tell he lived for it and it could see his love for making it
-he loved being amongst the huge sound of it at a concert or festival but being amongst fans at a concert or festivals and anywhere he performed
You could see him behind that DJ booth standing behind his decks facing a crowd & him up on the stage and waving his little hand around to the music that he’s either created or what he was spinning playing and it was amazing … We love you as Avicii
We love you Tim . You’ll never be forgotten . You brought light into music and your sound is and will be incomparable . Thank you You talented beautiful Swedish boy
Some celebrities can handle fame and others can’t. My guess is that the pressure of stardom hit him like a tidal wave and no one cared as long as money was being made. This is the tragedy of the entertainment industry because there is always another person to take advantage of.
Too much meth with the EDMers.
That’s one of my annoyances with gay life is the amount of meth men are doing and ruining their lives. Meth is everywhere and it is a horrible drug. I’m sure someone will scream “but we don’t know if he died from drugs” well even if he died from natural causes, it is well documented that drugs and alcohol did a number on Avicii and sometimes even when a person gets clean from drugs, the damage to the body lingers on.
Always sorry whenever any individual with a promising life dies young.
But ever so much ever so sorry for anyone who is devastated by a person’s passing because of only being connected with the deceased by the internet.
Another “fake DJ” like David Guetta (knob twirlers with a mix disc playing the whole set.) Back in the day, those two faced with a couple of crates full of records and two fixed speed turntables in a club that held 2000 would’ve crapped their pants. We did it EVERY NIGHT.
Bravo. I hope someone discredits you when you die.
it has nothing to do with being famous and everything to do with just being a creative person , the gene that makes people creative is the same gene that causes depression. and what do we do when we are feeling depressed ? medicate,,ie… kurt coban amy winehouse vincent v. george micheal robin williams and i am sure you know some that were not famous that suffer with this maybe you, i know i do (yea, i know i most likely miss spelled all the names) and the list goes on and on
Except that there is ample evidence to the contrary of creative people having no issues with drugs or depression.
What a waste. Alcohol and drugs takes another musical alternative to the vapid, faux anti-establishment, poseur, billion dollar designer “victims” of poverty, oppression, and bling we are subjected to on a daily nauseating basis. Now, we’re left with the FM-YouTube-EMI drivel and husband-wife teams masquerading as the artists they are not. Please, something new, not the packaged sterility of the anti-establishment status quo. Can’t even dance to it. Yuck. He was an alternative and now he’s gone.
