News: Court Blocks Trump’s Transgender Military Ban
Donald Trump may have just had his worst Monday ever, yesterday.
Not only did special prosecutor Robert Mueller hand out indictments to former members of his presidential campaign team, a federal judge barred his administration from pushing forward with his earlier declaration that transgender people would be banned form military service.
A ruling by U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly directed a return to conditions before Trump’s announcement of the transgender ban, stating that Trump’s administration had not given any solid evidence as to why the ban should be implemented.
The ban was first announced in a tweet, where Trump said that the military “will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity”. This was followed by a Trump memo that asked the Pentagon to extend indefinitely a ban on transgender individuals joining the military. In Kollar-Kotelly’s ruling, she wrote that the directives “do not appear to be supported by any facts”.
Trump’s move was in stark contrast to the Obama administration’s decision last year to change a policy that prevented transgender individuals from enlisting in the military. This policy was the same one that Trump chose to indefinitely extend.
The lawsuit challenging Trump’s transgender military ban was filed by the National Center for Lesbian Rights and GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD), two groups who worked together with eight transgender service members and students at the U.S. Naval Academy and in the ROTC program at the University of New Haven.
This isn’t the only lawsuit challenging the ban, either. Two other lawsuits await in Seattle and Baltimore. The Baltimore lawsuit, which which was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of six transgender service members, is scheduled to begin oral arguments on Nov. 9.

it seemed strange that transgendered people would fit in in the military. from what I understand they fit in just fine. if this is the case then why does anybody gotta stick their nose where it don’t belong? Some people are a twisted cuz now the military is gonna pay for the transition…SOOO? military is a most respectful way for those without resources to obtain them n be the best person they can. People use mitary for college education healthcare and more. They pay for these things by their service to our country..what better deal? EVERYONE win s!
