News: Chechen President on Gay Men—Take them to Canada

Speaking to Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov regarding Chechnya’s mixed martial arts program, David Scott—HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel correspondent—steered their conversation toward the alleged “roundup, abduction, and torture of gay men” in Chechnya. Scott asked Kadyrov what he wanted to say about the issue.
But Kadyrov merely laughed, asking, “Why did he [Scott] come here? What’s the point of these questions? This is nonsense.”
Tone dismissive, Kadyrov proceeded to reiterate what he had been saying these past few months ever since the news regarding the gay purge in Chechnya had started, “We don’t have those kinds of people here. We don’t have any gays. If there are any, take them to Canada. Praise be to God. Take them far from us so we don’t have them at home. To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them.”
His answers beg the question as to how far would he be willing to go in order to “purify” their blood. Do you agree?
Meanwhile, the undeterred correspondent pressed Kadyrov for more information. Scott asked Kadyrov if doesn’t get concerned at all whenever he reads in the news stories of young gay men being tortured. Scott added, “Does it concern you as a matter of law and order in the Republic when you hear these stories?”
“They are devils. They are for sale. They are not people. God damn them for what they are accusing us of. They will have to answer to the Almighty for this.”

Curious that nowhere in this article can the word “Muslims” be found. Chechnya is a Muslim-majority nation. One of the tenets of the Islamic religion is that homosexuals should be killed. Didn’t the writer of this article feel it important to address this pesky little fact? But I guess liberals don’t like facts.

Not sure what the big “Gasp!”is. A USSR official was caught off guard by a Western reporter. He did not flinch on his culture’s or government’s response to gays. There are no Liberals in the USSR and therefore no voice for gays. That’s not going to change anytime soon. For gays, then, they need to do what they can to leave the country by whatever means or for whatever reason (education, job, family) that is allowed and go to a country where they are welcome. No, it’s not fair. And it’s not right or just. It is, however, reality. And it is the tough choice many USSR gays can make for their ultimate happiness and safety.
