Total Amount A4A Raised for Chechen LGBT
Hi, guys!
It is our pleasure to announce that together we were able to raise $4,885 for our Chechen LGBT campaign. What’s more is that A4A is also adding $10,115 on top of the amount we collected, bringing our donation to a total of $15,000!
We’d like to thank everyone for rising to the occasion and for helping make this campaign a success. You, guys, are amazing! As aforementioned, the money raised in this campaign will go to Rainbow Railroad, a non-profit organization in Canada currently working hand-in-hand with the Russian LGBT Network to get the Chechen gay men to safety. Having started in 2006, Rainbow Railroad has 11 years of experience in helping LGBT people who are in constant fear of their lives escape their respective countries. Last year alone their organization managed to help 81 cases out of over 700 requests for aid they received.
While homophobic violence against LGBT is nothing new, the situation becomes even more grave when a country adds discrimination laws to the mix because then the ones they are up against are the government and the police. In countries or regions such as Chechnya, Iran, and Nigeria the price of being yourself is your safety, freedom, and sometimes life. Now more than ever before it is important that we rally behind the community because they have no one else to turn to but outside help.
Thank you again, guys, for your participation and support, you can now share the news on Facebook and Twitter so that other gay organizations do the same. Your help and kindness will definitely go a long way.
No money going to Iran and Nigeria, huh?
actually all the money is going towards people who ask for help.
Black and middle eastern men are last to receive help. Mask the fund as one used to help these groups yet the money doesn’t go to them. If it does, its a different caliber of help they receive.
Donnelle, do you really think that Rainbow Railroad pick white people? I mean come on! Trump is not managing this organization!!!
What’s happening to men in the Middle East and Africa is also horrible, yes. But there are groups already focusing on those because it’s not a new problem. This is a new problem, a specifically focused pogrom against gay men. It rises to the level of crisis and deserves a response. What you’re basically advocating is that we only focus on the places you mention and deliberately ignore the beating and killing of those in Chechnya. The organizations that are getting these men to relative safety are in fact necessary and are in fact deserving of our support.
