New York based Modern dance company Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT) paid beautiful homage to Academy Award-winning film Moonlight (2016, Barry Jenkins) by creating a dance masterpiece. Watch said dance film below.
Moonlight is a coming-of-age film that tells the childhood, teenage, and adult life of a gay black man named Chiron as he finds his way in life.
Dancers Jeremy T. Villas (from Broadway’s Kinky Boots), Christopher Taylor, and Jamar Roberts played the child, teen, and grown man Chiron respectively in the two-minute dance film. They danced under the blue moonlight to “The Middle of The World” by Moonlight composer Nicholas Britell. The short dance film was choreographed by AAADT’s Artistic Director Robert Battle and was directed by Anna Rose Holmer who is best-known for her work The Fits (2016).
