Hi, guys! Did you get to watch the Oscars? The ending was reminiscent of Miss Universe 2015 as the show initially announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner instead of Moonlight. Needless to say the unexpected reversal created confusion, shock, and chaos onstage.
Anyway, who did you think were the best dressed men in the red carpet? We thought Josh Dallas, Pharrell Williams, Ryan Gosling, Aldis Hodge, Jackie Chan, Mahershala Ali, Viggo Mortensen, and Andrew Garfield who wore Tom Ford looked gorgeous in their respective tuxedos. Speaking of outfits, some of the stars pinned a blue ribbon on theirs as a way of showing their support for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a “nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal and advocacy organization devoted to protecting the rights of everyone in America.”
For the 89th Academy Awards, the romantic musical La La Land had 14 Oscar nominations including the best actress, best director, and best original music score. Arrival and gay drama Moonlight on the other hand, garnered eight nominations each.
As aforementioned, Moonlight took home the Best Picture award. It stars Trevante Rhodes, Ashton Sanders, Mahershala Ali, and Alex Hibbert tells the story of a young black gay man named Chiron and his challenging life in Miami. The win is historic because it is the first LGBTQ film ever to earn Best Picture in the history of the Academy Awards. Watch its trailer below.
Gay songwriter Benj Pasek on the other hand, won Best original song “City of Stars” for La La Land which he co-wrote with Justin Paul.
I Am Not Your Negro (Raoul Peck, 2017), which is based on gay author James Baldwin’s unfinished book Remember This House lost to O.J.: Made in America for the best documentary feature.

Moonlight is on the list of movies I need to see after a number of people I know have spoken about what a good movie it is. Funny, not a one said it was an LGBT film. In reading a couple of reviews, LGBT is discussed, but only as one of the smaller plots.
This is great as far as equality is concerned. The mainstream doesn’t care!
Too much political
wasn’t oscar, that was gossiping show behind Mr. President .
its shame for us Americans
i boycott watching
Yes exactly what smart celebrities who have TV time should do.
Judging by your post, I’m not very shocked that you voted for him.
I’m guessing Russian is your first language?
the oscars were probably too “ethnic” for him this year…….
What’s smart about the promotion of division, hatred, and government gridlock? That creates stagnation without positive change. These folks should be leaders and take their causes to elected officials (regardless of Party) to promote the changes that they are passionate about. Then, they should tell the media what progress is being made.
OMG, y’all are killing me. Moonlight is not a LGBT movie any more than it’s a coming of age movie, a black movie, a recovery movie, a parenting movie, or any of the other meaningful subjects addressed in this wonderful film. ARGH!!!
Moonlight is also the first film with a majority black cast to win Best Picture but being this is a gay blog I suppose I get the need to emphasize it being LBTQ (though it’s not necessarily that).
To those complaining about the Oscars being too political, STFU! I guess you’d rather Hollywood sit back and be quiet and not use their influencial voices and platform to speak out against injustice?
Finally, I loved Viola Davis’ speech!
This has some how turned into a LGBT movie really. It’s the story of a BLACK MANS life who happens to be gay there was no support from the community for this film or for the protest of the Academy to look beyond there own popcorn box and see there are other movies to see and there are actors who don’t have star power but do have the chops to handle roles that call for a person of color
