News: Wife of Orlando Shooter Arrested

It’s been months, but the aftershocks of the Pulse nightclub shootings are still being felt. The most recent development is the arrest of Noor Salman, wife of the Pulse nightclub shooter, Omar Mateen.

Salman was arrested recently for federal charges that include obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting her husband’s material support to USUS. Despite her insistence that she was merely coerced by her husband’s abusive behavior, authorities say that she had acted of her own free will.

Authorities have discovered that Mateen had made Salman a part of his insurance policy months before he carried out the attack. Mateen also made sure that Salman had access to all of his accounts, and brought her expensive jewelry. Mateen also called Salman after the attack, where she told him that she loved him.

Salman faced an Oakland court yesterday, where her lawyer pleaded her case and asserted that she had no advance knowledge of the attack. Her uncle Al defended her outside of the court, calling her “simple and innocent” and claiming that she was physically and mentally abused by Mateen.

Sitora Yusufiy, Mateen’s ex-wife, had previously made similar claims, saying that she had a brief and abusive relationship with Mateen.
