Watch This : Best Music Videos for Halloween

Staying in this Halloween? Or you’re hosting a party but you don’t have songs to play? No problem, we’ve compiled a smashing Halloween playlist for you to enjoy and help you party or celebrate quietly at home. We chose at least one song for each decade starting with the 1960s.

1960s
1. Paint it, Black (1966, The Rolling Stones)
This raga rock song has a gothic feel not only because of the sitar instrument used but also because of its haunting lyrics. It is one of the band’s hits, charting at number one in both the Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart. It was also chosen as part of the soundtrack for the films Full Metal Jacket and The Devil’s Advocate. A recent version by Ciara made it to the film The Last Witch Hunter.

Check out Ciara’s version below for a more soul-rending version.

2. Hooked on a Feeling (1968, B.J. Thomas)
The song was first heard in November 1968 and has since enjoyed a number of revivals and covers such as the one shown in the video below. The film Guardians of the Galaxy (2014, James Gunn) is credited for reacquainting the young generation of today with this song.

1970s
3. Highway to Hell (1979, AC/DC)
An AC/DC hit which landed the #47 spot on the Hot 100 in 1979. The song’s title is said to be in reference to the exhausting schedule of the band when touring but it’s the death of the band’s front man Bon Scott that gave the lyrics of the song a new meaning and of spooky quality at that. Nowadays, this song is frequently heard in Supernatural (2005, Eric Kripke), an American fantasy horror TV series.

1980s
4. Thriller (1982, Michael Jackson)
A song everybody has heard of. It is one of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits praised for the voice, beat, sound effects, and its epic music video. The song is so successful it reemerges to the chart every now and then the latest of which was last year where it landed at #45 in the US Billboard Hot 100 and #61 in the UK (Official Charts Company).

5. Ghostbusters (1984, Ray Parker Jr.)
It is the iconic theme from the supernatural comedy film of the same title about a group of guys who catches ghosts for a living. The franchise is such a hit the movie had been remade recently.

1990s
6. Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) (1997, Backstreet Boys)
This dance song is Backstreet Boys’ most successful single and is said to be a parody of the horror film genre much like Michael Jackson’s thriller. It reached #4 in the US Billboard Hot 100 which ran for twenty two weeks.

2000s
7. Disturbia (2008, Rihanna)
Rihanna’s dance-pop hit; its lyrics and music video allude to how a person’s emotional turmoil such as anxiety and anguish could drive people mad. This song earned Rihanna various nominations and awards not to mention millions in sales.

8. Bad Romance (2009, Lady Gaga)
Although it is a dance-pop, the notes of the first twelve seconds of this song sounded like it is a soundtrack for some horror film although in actuality the lyrics does talk about the horrors of romance and bad relationships. Another horror quality of the song is found in the video’s message and then there’s Lady Gaga’s final scene on the bed with a skeleton.

Bad Romance is one of Lady Gaga’s hits, landing at #1 in most charts around the world. This song is widely acclaimed for its lyrics, beat, and music video.

2010s
9. The Monster (2013, Eminem and Rihanna)
The Monster is Eminem and Rihanna’s hip hop song that talks about “monsters that’s under my bed” although we all know it’s talking about a different monster. It landed in several charts, selling millions of copies around the world.

10. The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?) (2013, Ylvis)
The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?) is an electronic dance novelty song of the Norwegian comedy duo Ylvis who are siblings Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker. It sold millions of copies and is said to have also helped increase the sales of the fox costumes at a costume outlet during the Halloween season in 2013.

The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?) makes people want to dance, no wonder it was included in Just Dance 2015, a dance video game for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, and Wii U.

Ciara’s version of Paint it Black sounds gothic. The Stones’ reflects more of that ’60’s India craze and fasination with it’s culture. Over all that’s a pretty nice list for the occasion but lets not forget theme songs from shows like Addams Family,Munsters, Alfred Hitchcock,Twilight Zone or creepy movies like The Excorsist,Child of the corn, Friday 13.
