Do you watch straight porn? Many gays actually watch straight porn according to research. It turns out, sexuality in both gay men and straight men is a lot more fluid than we thought. Men’s preference for watching porn doesn’t indicate what their sexual identities are.

It is a common belief that women, regardless of their sexual identity, can get turned on by viewing all types of genders or sexual orientation. New studies, however, are also suggesting that men, after all, are not that stringent when it comes to their idea of sexuality, gender, or watching porn no matter what their sexual orientation.

A study on men’s porn preferences published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior reveals that men do not only like to watch the type of porn that matches their chosen sexual identities. Gay men also like watching hetero sex, and straight men also enjoy watching gay sex.

In fact, the percentage of gay men watching straight (man-to-woman) porn may surprise you. It is at a whopping 55%. (More than half the gay guys’ population.)

The number of straight men watching gay porn may also be surprising for some. It is at an unexpectedly high percentage of 21%.

Bisexual habits of watching porn

The survey was conducted with 821 men participants who were asked about their porn-viewing habits in the last six months. The research was led by Dr. Martin J. Downing, PhD.

The study found that bisexual men, although considering both men and women as likely sexual partners, appears to be more likely to watch gay porn (male-male) than straight porn (male-female). They watched both gay pornography and straight pornography.

From the survey sample, 96% of bi men had been reported to watch gay porn (almost as much as the 98.3% rate of gay men reported to watch gay porn), and only 88.3% of bi men watched straight porn (just some notches lower than the 98.5% rate of straight men reported to watch straight porn).

Dr. Downing explains that the number of gay men watching a man have sex with a woman is not at all surprising.

He explains that “Research [showed] that some gay men are attracted to or find heterosexual and masculine men more attractive.” (There is the pressure for many gay men to exhibit (more) “masculinity” so they can attract partners.)

Meanwhile, the number of straight men who watch gay porn, on the other hand, may at first seem unexpected, but again, Dr. Downing explains that “Sexual attractions and behaviors are more than just identity.”

He notes that there are substantial research revealing that it is not at all uncommon for heterosexual men (those who identify themselves as straight) to have an attraction/interest in gay men, even to the point of occasionally hooking up with them).

This only proves that “never ever in a million years feeling an ounce of attraction for the same sex” is not at all required for men to identify their sexual identity (as opposed to ‘sexual preference’) as straight.

Men—like women—whether gay, straight, or bisexual all have the tendency to watch gay porn, straight porn, or other types of porn at some point, and it does not necessarily define their (chosen) sexual identities.
