Fashion : Sam Smith X Balenciaga
“So honoured and ecstatic to announce my collaboration with @BALENCIAGA on the upcoming FW15 Menswear campaign!!!!” said Sam Smith via his Instagram account. The new face of Balenciaga showcases his new svelte body on pictures snapped by Josh Olins for the French Fashion House.
I am surprisingly happy to see Sam doing the Balenciaga campaign as this is my favorite brand. Expensive yes, it’s Pret-à-Porter, but I always try to get 1-2 pieces every year, but I love the aesthetic of the brand since Alexander Wang is the designer.
Check out the first images released by the Balenciaga below and the short video teaser above.
Dave
He kind of looks like Jude Law in a few of those pics. But still very sexy.
“New svelte body” ? ? ? He’s wearing coats. His body doesn’t matter.
Eric, he lost a lot of weight, that’s why I said that.
Oh God, Jesus please take me. I can’t take anymore of these fancy gay men. Enough is enough already.
Much ado about nothing in my opinion.
Is there a term for a male diva? A divo?
The latest Cabela’s catalog came today. Once again they’re hitting the streets with an array of colorful, hot apparel and accessory items for fall!
There is nothing sexy about Sam Smith. He’s an extremely unattractive man regardless of his weight loss or gain. I’m not really trying to be mean, but if they want to use a model, he is not model material. Big mistake on their part.
PB: I think they used him because he is famous. Not because of his beauty.
He has a great sense of style though. And he is unique. Brands like to associate themselves with Unique people.
Think Ines De La Fresange for Chanel…not pretty, but unique.
I wish the people who talk about trends in men’s wardrobe and grooming would use a better term. “Fah-shun” sounds so vapid and girlie. How about “style?”
With that off my chest, I think Sam Smith is a pretty good performer, but his singing voice is really not that great. I’ve bought “Lay Me Down,” but nothing else. So how is he qualified to be a menswear model?
I agree that the fashion industry has been marketing product by associating with celebrities since fashion was first recognized as a thing. Blackglama comes to mind, with their eternal “What Becomes A Legend Most?” campaigns that showed Audrey Hepburn, Catherine Deneuve, even Ray Charles in fur coats. Tag Heuer has their “What Are You Made Of?” campaigns featuring celebrities wearing wrist watches. But each celebrity model/endorser I can think of had already demonstrated that they had staying power and were truly among the elite in their different fields. I’m suggesting that a mature house such as Balenciaga should have chosen someone who has genuine celebrity credentials. Let’s see where Sam Smith is in 10 years. I predict: a cruise ship somewhere.
headsupguy: ahahaha not sure about the cruise ship tho…
I think Balenciaga wanted to target clients that are open minded. Using an openly gay singer is so great though, very proud of us!
I posted a comment on sam smith and because he’s the poster child for the over processed, preening peacock set it was rejected. Now I see how it works. I don’t fit into that set thank God so I’m starting to be ignored. Amazing isn’t it how predictible the gay community is.
Richard: comments that are disrespectful towards a member of a4a or myself are rejected, yes.
Blog I did no such thing and you know it. Its because I criticized sam smith and there was absolutely no disrespect. And also I mentioned Jesus and that was what you meant. Meaning Jesus has become a dirty word. And how many mean nasty comments have I read that were not rejected. I think you realize that im not a liberal, left wing socialist, clinton, obama. Democrat. Im supposed to tow the line and Iill do no such thing. Amazing isnt Iit how all inclusive the gay community claims to be but the right word is exclusive.
Richard:
I just saw it in the automatic spam. Probably because u said “God” I don’t know.
Blog thank you for your response and the opportunity to express my opinion we may disagree but it’s okay
